Job Overview: On-Site Oilfield Backhoe, Front Loader, and Telehandler Operator

Position: Heavy Equipment Operator (Backhoe, Front Loader, Telehandler)
Location: Varies by location, based out of Columbiana, OH yard.
Employment Type: Full-Time, On-Site

Role Summary:

The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of backhoes, front loaders, and telehandlers at oilfield sites. This position involves executing earth-moving operations, material handling, and providing support to drilling and maintenance activities. The operator will be responsible for maintaining a safe work environment and adhering to oilfield-specific protocols and procedures.

The ideal candidate must have experience handling various types of heavy equipment in high-pressure environments and be committed to ensuring safety and efficiency in oilfield operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate backhoes to dig trenches, move earth, and perform other excavation tasks in support of drilling, rig setup, and other oilfield activities.
  • Use front loaders for material transportation, loading/unloading, and ground leveling to ensure a stable and safe worksite.
  • Safely operate telehandlers to lift, transport, and place heavy materials and equipment on-site.
  • Perform routine maintenance checks on all equipment, ensuring machinery is clean, lubricated, and in safe working condition.
  • Troubleshoot minor equipment malfunctions and coordinate with maintenance teams for necessary repairs.
  • Monitor site conditions and machinery to adjust operating techniques for optimal performance in varying terrain or weather conditions.
  • Follow all safety regulations, company policies, and oilfield operation procedures to avoid accidents and downtime.
  • Assist in rigging, site preparation, and movement of materials, supporting the broader operational needs of the oilfield team.
  • Keep detailed logs of equipment use, fuel consumption, and any incidents or maintenance needs.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; certifications or training in heavy equipment operation preferred.
  • Proven experience operating backhoes, front loaders, and telehandlers, ideally in oilfield or industrial settings.
  • Strong understanding of hydraulic systems, mechanical operations, and safety protocols for heavy equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, site plans, and work orders related to excavation and material handling tasks.
  • Excellent hand-eye coordination and attention to detail, with a focus on safety.
  • Physical ability to lift heavy objects, stand for long periods, and work in various environmental conditions (heat, cold, dust).
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to work extended hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as required.
  • Willingness to travel to remote locations and remain on-site for the duration of projects.

Working Conditions:

  • Outdoor work in extreme and often challenging weather conditions.
  • Exposure to loud noise, heavy machinery, and potential hazards on oilfield sites.
  • Long shifts, with potential for extended periods on remote sites, requiring adherence to safety protocols and use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
