Operational Communications Officer

OPERATIONAL COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER

This opportunity offers:
  • Ongoing full-time employment, and Recruitment (Talent) Pool will be created through this process up to 18 months
  • Opportunities available for up to 35 hours per work week (rotating roster)
  • Attractive annual salary $73,522 - $79,931 p.a. plus 11.5% superannuation. In addition to salary, the role also attracts a shift penalty allowance of 26.14%.
  • Location: Sydney Olympic Park (RFS State Headquarters)
  • Limited free onsite parking is available and location is close to public transport



Join the Operational Communications Centre team at the Rural Fire Service Headquarters. The Centre operates 24/7 providing high-level communications support to our 44 Rural Fire Districts across NSW in the form of call receipt and dispatch. Additionally the role assists our State Operations Centre with the administration and coordination of large campaigns or complex incidents throughout NSW. We are looking to create a recruitment (talent) pool through this process to fill potential upcoming future ongoing, temporary, and casual vacancies within the next 18 months.


In the role, you'll be responsible for receiving, interpreting, and responding RFS resources to emergency and routine calls for assistance, such as fire-related incidents, motor vehicle accidents, and other hazards. The team operates the Bush Fire Information Line and AIDER program requests as well as supporting functions within the State Operations Centre. This requires the dissemination of relevant information, dispatching of appropriate resources, and monitoring responses to incidents through effective telephone and radio communication, and data entry.


As our ideal candidate, you'll have the ability to remain calm, dynamic, and flexible in a high-pressure and paced environment. Your computer skills along with highly competent communication ability will be essential to the role.


Our centre can accommodate a team of up to 25 operators, who work on a varied and rotating roster, which includes night shifts, weekends, and public holidays.


Ongoing Operators

  • Ongoing operators work 35 hours per week on a varied and rotating roster. A standard shift pattern is 12 hours and may start from:
    • Day Shift: 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM
    • Night Shift: 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM
    • Swing Shift: as required


Casual Operators


  • Our casual operators have access to our rostering system app where available shifts will be posted. Casual hourly salary range includes $40.26 - $43.77 per hour, plus 11.5% superannuation and casual loading.


Induction

  • Prior to commencing employment, successful candidates will be required to attend a paid induction program (2 weeks). Induction is scheduled upon activation of candidates from the Recruitment (Talent) Pool. An upcoming induction is planned to occur from mid-February 2025.
