The Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing daily operations of a moving and storage company, ensuring efficient service delivery, high customer satisfaction, regulatory compliance, and profitability. This role manages field crews, warehouse operations, fleet logistics, and administrative coordination to ensure seamless residential and commercial relocations.

Key Responsibilities

1. Operational Management

  • Plan, coordinate, and supervise local and long-distance moving operations.
  • Oversee warehouse and storage facility operations (inventory control, safety, organisation).
  • Develop and manage daily schedules for crews, trucks, and equipment.
  • Monitor job performance to ensure quality standards and service timelines are met.

2. Team Leadership

  • Recruit, train, and supervise drivers, moving staff, warehouse staff, and dispatch personnel.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide coaching and corrective action as needed.
  • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and customer service excellence.

3. Fleet & Equipment Oversight

  • Manage company vehicles (trucks, vans) including maintenance schedules and inspections.
  • Ensure proper use and maintenance of moving equipment (dollies, lifts, packing materials).
  • Control fuel costs and vehicle utilisation.

4. Customer Service & Client Relations

  • Resolve customer issues and claims efficiently and professionally.
  • Coordinate with sales team to ensure accurate job estimates and execution.
  • Maintain high customer satisfaction and online reputation.

5. Compliance & Safety

  • Ensure compliance with local and country transportation regulations.
  • Maintain tachograph, driver logs, and licensing requirements (if applicable).
  • Enforce workplace safety standards and conduct safety training sessions.

6. Financial & Performance Management

  • Manage operational budgets and control labour, fuel, and equipment costs.
  • Track KPIs such as on-time performance, damage rates, labour efficiency, and revenue per move.
  • Prepare operational reports for senior management.
