Job Overview
We are seeking a highly organized and knowledgeable Optical Manager to lead our optical department within a dynamic healthcare or retail setting. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in ophthalmology, laboratory procedures, and retail management, with a focus on delivering exceptional patient and customer service. This role involves overseeing daily operations, managing staff, and ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations such as HIPAA. The Optical Manager will play a key role in maintaining high standards of patient care, optical product sales, and clinic efficiency.
Duties
- Supervise and coordinate the daily operations of the optical department, including patient consultations and retail sales.
- Oversee laboratory activities such as lens fitting, adjustments, and quality control, ensuring adherence to aseptic techniques.
- Manage patient records utilizing EMR systems like Epic and other electronic medical record platforms, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA.
- Assist with clinical procedures including measuring vital signs, assessing physiology related to vision health, and supporting pediatric and senior care patients.
- Train and supervise staff on medical terminology, medical coding, optical products, and clinic protocols.
- Oversee inventory management of optical supplies and retail products while maintaining retail math accuracy.
- Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations, including HIPAA privacy standards and clinic safety protocols.
- Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient outcomes related to vision health.
- Drive sales through excellent customer service while providing expert advice on optical products and services.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in ophthalmology or optometry clinics with knowledge of medical billing, coding, and records management.
- Strong understanding of anatomy related to eye health, physiology, vital signs assessment, and aseptic techniques.
- Experience with EMR systems such as Epic or similar platforms; proficiency in medical terminology is essential.
- Background in laboratory procedures related to optics or laboratory experience in a clinical setting preferred.
- Retail management experience including retail sales strategies, retail math, and inventory control.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations to ensure patient confidentiality at all times.
- Excellent leadership skills with the ability to train staff effectively across multiple disciplines including pediatrics and senior care.
- Strong communication skills for collaboration with healthcare teams and providing exceptional customer service to patients and clients.
