Job Details

We are the people behind Ireland’s electricity grid. We operate the power system with world-leading levels of variable asynchronous renewable generation, ensuring that everyone has power when they need it. But that’s not all — we are now transforming the power system for future generations.

Our purpose is clear: to enable society to reduce carbon emissions and achieve climate change and net-zero ambitions. This transformation requires innovation, resilience, and leadership in designing and deploying next-generation OT and IT architectures that underpin critical infrastructure.

The Team

EirGrid Group has a unique role to play in leading this radical transformation of our power system in support of the transition to renewable energy. This will require pioneering engineering effort together with enhanced IT capability to respond successfully to the scale of disruption. This offers a unique opportunity to further your career in Telecom and Network Architecture while playing a significant role in delivering EirGrid Group’s Infrastructure transformation.

We’re a Networking intensive business, and we operate a state-of-the-art, specialised business-critical systems, 24/7.

The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced OT Network Architect to join our growing team and play a key role in shaping the future of Ireland’s energy infrastructure. As we transition to a low-carbon energy future, this is a unique opportunity to operate at a strategic level, influencing network architecture for both current operations and future requirements, including new interconnector projects and offshore renewable deployments.

The OT Network Architect will be pivotal in designing, implementing, and governing the telecommunications and network architecture that underpins EirGrid’s critical operations. With ambitious plans to deploy offshore renewable energy generators over the next five years, there is an urgent need to enhance OT capabilities to support telemetry, SCADA, assets and associated services for these installations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Define and maintain the OT/IT network architecture roadmap, ensuring alignment with organisational strategy and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead the design and deployment of secure, high-performance network solutions for critical infrastructure, including offshore renewable projects and interconnectors.
  • Oversee integration of OT and IT systems, ensuring interoperability, resilience, and compliance with cybersecurity standards.
  • Collaborate with offshore teams and external partners to deliver consistent architecture standards and accelerate project timelines.
  • Provide technical leadership and governance across network design, implementation, and operational support.
  • Develop and enforce architecture principles, policies, and best practices, including automation and standardisation.
  • Support business continuity and disaster recovery planning for network-related services.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders, influencing decisions on technology investments and solution approaches.

About You
  • A recognised qualification in a relevant technical discipline supported by 10 years’ experience in senior network engineering or architecture roles within critical infrastructure environments.
  • Proven expertise in OT networking, routing, switching, and WAN technologies (including MPLS).
  • Strong knowledge of network security, vulnerability management, and remediation.
  • Experience in architecting and delivering complex network solutions, including cloud and hybrid environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop operational procedures and run books, with a focus on automation.
  • Excellent technical and analytical skills, with the ability to operate effectively in complex environments.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across teams.

Desirable
  • Professional certifications such as CCNP, CCIE, Azure Network Engineer Associate, or equivalent.
  • Experience with network automation tools and scripting (e.g., Python, Ansible, Netbox, OpsManage+).
