Outreach Team Lead
Status: Full-Time, 40 hours/weekCompensation: $30/hour plus health and dental benefits and RRSP matching
The Outreach Team Lead provides day-to-day operational leadership for SSODA's Outreach Program, supporting a team of four Outreach Workers delivering services throughout the Lunenburg and Queens Counties. Working within a Housing First, harm reduction, and trauma-informed framework, the Outreach Team Lead coordinates outreach activities, transportation, logistics, scheduling, safety planning, and field operations to ensure outreach teams can effectively engage individuals experiencing homelessness and housing instability.
The Outreach Team Lead serves as the primary operational support for Outreach Workers, ensuring staff are deployed efficiently, equipped appropriately, and able to respond effectively to emerging community needs. The position oversees the operation, maintenance, and readiness of the outreach vehicle and acts as the central point of coordination for outreach logistics, supplies, transportation, safety procedures, and field communication.
The Outreach Program consists of four Outreach Workers operating in teams of two. While the Outreach Team Lead regularly accompanies outreach teams in the community and provides operational guidance and mentorship, the role does not carry a client caseload or formal supervisory authority. Performance management, program oversight, and staff supervision remain the responsibility of the Coordinated Access System Manager.

Key Responsibilities1. Outreach Team Coordination
- Coordinate daily outreach activities for a team of four Outreach Workers operating in two-person teams
- Develop outreach schedules, deployment plans, and team assignments in collaboration with the Coordinated Access System Manager
- Monitor outreach coverage and adjust deployment based on emerging community needs
- Serve as the primary operational contact for Outreach Workers during shifts
- Coordinate safety planning, risk assessments, and field support for outreach activities
- Facilitate communication among outreach staff and support coordinated service delivery
- Assist with onboarding and mentoring new Outreach Workers
- Provide operational guidance and support while ensuring adherence to organizational policies and procedures
2. Transportation & Logistics
- Coordinate transportation schedules and outreach routes across the South Shore region
- Ensure Outreach Workers have the equipment, supplies, technology, and resources necessary to conduct outreach safely and effectively
- Monitor inventory of outreach supplies and coordinate replenishment as required
- Organize transportation supports for outreach activities and community initiatives
- Coordinate outreach coverage during staff absences, emergencies, and special projects
- Assist in planning outreach responses to emerging community needs and service gaps
- Transport Outreach clients when appropriate
3. Outreach Vehicle Management
- Serve as the primary custodian of the outreach vehicle
- Ensure the vehicle remains clean, safe, operational, and fully equipped
- Conduct regular inspections and maintain vehicle logs and maintenance records
- Monitor fuel usage and coordinate fuel purchases
- Perform basic vehicle maintenance including fluid checks, tire pressure monitoring, cleaning, organization, and minor upkeep
- Coordinate preventative maintenance, servicing, inspections, tire changes, and repairs with external service providers
- Report vehicle issues and maintenance needs promptly
- Ensure compliance with organizational vehicle policies and safety standards
4. Field Support & Community Engagement
- Regularly accompany outreach teams to provide operational support, mentorship, and assistance in complex situations
- Support Outreach Workers during crisis situations and high-risk community engagements
- Build and maintain positive relationships with community partners, service providers, healthcare organizations, shelters, and emergency services
- Participate in coordinated access activities, case conferencing, and community planning initiatives
- Represent SSODA at community meetings, outreach events, and partnership tables as assigned
- Assist in identifying emerging trends, service gaps, and opportunities for program improvement
5. Documentation & Program Administration
- Maintain operational records related to outreach activities, vehicle usage, supply inventories, and program logistics
- Assist with data collection, reporting requirements, and program evaluation activities
- Track outreach trends, community needs, and operational challenges
- Provide regular updates and recommendations to the Coordinated Access System Manager
- Support continuous quality improvement initiatives and program development
6. Program Support
- Support implementation of outreach initiatives, special projects, and community response efforts
- Participate in organizational meetings, training, and professional development activities
- Assist with emergency response and community mobilization efforts when required
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Required Qualifications & ExperienceEducation
- Diploma or degree in Social Work, Human Services, Community Studies, Psychology, Sociology, Addictions, or a related field preferred
- Equivalent combination of education, lived experience, and relevant work experience may be considered
Experience
- Minimum 3 years of experience working with vulnerable populations in outreach, housing, shelter, healthcare, or social service settings
- Demonstrated experience supporting individuals experiencing homelessness, mental health challenges, substance use concerns, or housing instability
- Experience coordinating teams, projects, schedules, logistics, or community-based services
- Experience working within Housing First, harm reduction, and trauma-informed frameworks
- Experience operating and maintaining vehicles in a professional capacity is considered an asset

Additional Requirements
- Valid Nova Scotia Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record
- Ability to travel extensively throughout the South Shore region
- Current First Aid/CPR certification or willingness to obtain
- Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check satisfactory to SSODA requirements
Working Conditions
This position is based in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia and primarily involves community-based outreach work throughout the South Shore region.
The position is an hourly position at 40 hours per week and includes:
- 2 weeks vacation
- 6 sick days
- 3 personal days
- Health and dental benefits
- RRSP matching
The role requires regular travel throughout the community and may involve working outdoors in various weather conditions, visiting encampments, shelters, hospitals, and other community locations. The Outreach Team Lead is responsible for the operation, coordination, and basic maintenance oversight of the outreach vehicle and may occasionally be required to respond to urgent operational issues outside regular working hours.
SSODA staff work in a dynamic, collaborative environment and must be able to respond with flexibility, professionalism, and a strong commitment to equity, inclusion, harm reduction, and housing stability.
Pay: $30.00 per hour
