Outside Operation Supervisor - Entry Level Golf Professional Role

Overview

Meadow Brook Golf Club, a private 9-hole golf course in Reading, MA, is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Outside Operations Supervisor / Entry Level Assistant Golf Professional to join our team. This position is perfect for an individual looking to build their career in golf while overseeing the daily golf operations of the club. The Outside Operations Supervisor will work closely with the Head Golf Professional (Kevin Franey), senior assistants, and outside operations staff to ensure efficient operations on the golf course, proper pace of play, and a high level of member satisfaction. The role combines responsibilities in player services, managing outside staff, golf shop duties, and assisting with golf instruction and events. Meadow Brook Golf Club has a dedicated membership of over 400 golfers with a 10+ year waitlist. This is a seasonal position, with winter job placement assistance available for ambitious candidates.

Experience Required

  • Previous experience in a golf shop, golf course operations, or golf-related role is preferred but not required.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with a focus on customer service
  • Experience in managing staff or supervising outdoor operations is a plus, but not required.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a high level of professionalism.
  • Strong understanding of golf rules and etiquette, with the ability to assist members with questions related to play.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team to ensure a smooth operation of the course and shop.
  • Professional demeanor, appearance, and attitude are essential.

Essential Responsibilities

Outside Operations Supervision

  • Responsible for daily outside operations of the club, including golf carts, bag storage, practice range facilities, and golfer arrival/departures
  • Manage seasonal outside staff scheduling and training
  • Manage the golf course starting procedures, including ensuring tee time adherence, proper course flow, and addressing pace of play issues.
  • Supervise bag drop operations, ensuring proper handling of golf bags, clubs, and carts.
  • Assist with the operation and maintenance of golf carts, ensuring carts are clean, stocked, and properly maintained.
  • Ensure that practice areas (driving range, putting green) are properly set up, maintained, and ready for use by members at all times.

Customer Service & Member Relations

  • Provide exceptional service to members, guests, and visitors, ensuring a welcoming atmosphere both on and off the course.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with club members, addressing their needs and inquiries with professionalism.
  • Assist in managing and growing club programs, including junior golf, women’s leagues, and men's weekly games.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve member concerns or complaints with tact and professionalism.

Golf Shop Management

  • Greet and assist members with golf equipment, apparel, and other retail products, ensuring a professional and customer-focused environment.
  • Manage tee time reservations, check-in procedures, and starting groups, ensuring an efficient flow of play throughout the day.
  • Handle cash register transactions, billing inquiries, and member account management.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the golf shop to meet club standards.

Golf Instruction & Player Development (for the right candidate)

  • Assist the Head Golf Professional with providing golf instruction to members of all skill levels.
  • Conduct group clinics, junior golf programs, and other events as needed, based on experience and interest.

Administrative & Operational Support

  • Ensure compliance with all club policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
  • Maintain accurate records of lesson bookings, outside operations tasks, and inventory control.

Schedule:

  • Full-time, seasonal position (Late April–Early October), with flexibility to accommodate weekend and holiday shifts.
  • 5-day workweek, with 2 days off per week.
  • Assistance with job placement for the winter months for those interested in working in the golf business (e.g., Florida, retail positions, etc.).

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $16.00 - $24.00 per hour

Expected hours: No less than 35 per week

Shift:

  • 8 hour shift
