Overseas Adaptation Coordinator

The post holder will take responsibility for and co-ordinate and facilitate all the necessary aspects of the clinical adaptation and assessment for overseas trained nurses, undertaking this process. In addition as part of the nursing workforce planning team, this role will support and assist with the induction and orientation of nursing workforce and collaborate with the Clinical Nurse Education Team to provide training and support for new staff as required.

The purpose of the Clinical Adaptation Overseas Coordinator/ Nursing Workforce (CNM2 GRADE) is to plan, organise and provide guidance and support to the Internationally Educated Nurses (IEN’s) across their assigned supernumerary clinical assessment and adaptation placements. The Clinical Adaptation Overseas Coordinator/ Nursing Workforce must ensure that the clinical learning experiences meet the NMBI’s regulatory and compensation measures requirements and standards. He/she is required to organise and/or develop orientation programmes; coordinate and / or deliver education classes or training that will facilitate effective adaptation of Internationally Educated Nurses into the Irish Healthcare System. The remit of the post will include the provision of learning and support to Internationally Educated Nurses across the clinical learning environments.

OBJECTIVES OF THE POST

To coordinate all aspects of the clinical adaptation and assessment process across the clinical sites for the overseas nurse candidates. To coordinate the planning and delivery of the orientation and/or education component of the programme and to ensure the development of clinical sites for the purpose of Clinical Assessment of Adaptation Nurse candidates and the overall management of these overseas pre-registration nurses during their period of clinical placement and assessment.

The post holder will ensure that the needs of these overseas nurse candidates in clinical placement are supported and facilitated to achieve maximum learning outcomes.

• Advise, encourage, support and facilitate many groups of Internationally Educated Nurses clinical learning placements through a broad range of means
• Encourage and promote the Internationally Educated Nurses application of theoretical knowledge to clinical nursing practice in the clinical environments.
• Support registered nurses in their role as new/existing preceptors
• Act as a link between the Internationally Educated Nurses, the preceptor, associate preceptor, relevant clinical nurse manager, human resource, HSE, third level lecturers and the Nursing Department
• Educate, guide and support both the Internationally Educated Nurses candidates and preceptors regarding the clinical assessment process. Ensure the assessment process is carried out with due regard for fairness, objectivity and accuracy
• Facilitate the application of evidence based nursing practice and standards in clinical practice, including completion of clinical learning environment audits, nurse documentation
• Participate in all Audits and/or service improvement and other quality patient safety initiatives
• Participate in nurse practice initiatives that foster the application of theory to clinical practice and improved quality of patient care
• The post holder is expected to work with other professionals involved in the whole continuum of clinical nurse education and with broader teams involved in multidisciplinary professional education and development.
• Maintaining competencies as a clinician, supervisor and clinical teacher
