Description

Imagine getting to know a child across their whole day, not just in a 50-minute session. You’d see how they arrive, play, eat, rest, move between activities and say goodbye. You’d understand what helps them feel safe and settled, and what gets in the way. And the strategies you put in place would be used by the people around them all week.

That’s this role. We’re creating a full-time, in-house Occupational Therapist position at Curiosity Tree Morayfield, an established centre with a settled, supportive team.

You’ll work closely with children who need extra support, including autistic children, children with ADHD, developmental delay, sensory processing differences or experiences of trauma. You’ll help them build regulation, confidence and independence, and make sure the adults around them have the skills to keep that support going every day. Together, we’ll help each child start school ready to take part, with the right supports around them.

What You Get

  • $95k–$115k per year + super, depending on experience
  • No billing, no NDIS plans to chase, no caseload targets. Your time is for children.
  • Time to really know each child, observe, plan and follow through
  • You’re not counted in educator ratios, so you have protected time to observe, plan and coach
  • Monday to Friday, 38 hours
  • A real say in shaping how we support children with additional needs. This is our first role of its kind, with scope to grow across our centres.
  • Supportive, collaborative leadership that listens and appreciates you
  • Wellbeing initiatives & team appreciation (we love a celebration!)

What You’ll Be Doing

Supporting children

  • Observing and assessing children in their everyday routines, and understanding what sits behind the behaviour we see
  • Supporting emotional, sensory and attentional regulation through play-based, relationship-focused, neurodiversity-affirming practice
  • Helping children build skills in play, communication, self-care (toileting, dressing, eating), fine and gross motor, and early school readiness
  • Developing individual support plans that respond to each child’s strengths, needs and goals
  • Adapting environments, routines and resources so they work for children with different needs

Building the team around the child

  • Coaching staff in the moment, alongside the children, so strategies are used consistently
  • Running practical training on regulation, co-regulation, sensory needs and responding to behaviours of concern
  • Working with our leadership team to strengthen inclusive practice across the centre

Partnering with families and professionals

  • Working alongside families and sharing strategies they can use at home
  • Collaborating with children’s external therapists, paediatricians, our Inclusion Support Agency and local schools

About You

We’re looking for an OT who is:

  • Warm, patient and genuinely curious about every child
  • Strengths-based and neurodiversity-affirming in practice
  • Passionate about helping children with different needs feel capable and included
  • A natural collaborator who enjoys sharing what they know
  • Calm and practical in busy, real-world environments
  • Excited to shape a new role and see its impact every day

What You Bring

  • A degree in Occupational Therapy and current AHPRA registration
  • Paediatric experience, ideally with Autism, ASD, ADHD, developmental delay, sensory processing differences and/or trauma
  • Confidence coaching and training others, or a genuine wish to grow in this

• A current Blue Card • First Aid, CPR, Asthma & Anaphylaxis Certification

  • Physically fit for the demands of the role, including standing for long periods, safely bending, lifting and carrying children and equipment, and responding quickly in an emergency
