Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and energetic Paraprofessional to join our dynamic educational team. In this vital role, you will provide essential classroom support to students with diverse learning needs, including those with disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, and developmental disabilities. Your enthusiasm and commitment will help foster an inclusive learning environment where every student can thrive. You will assist teachers in implementing individualized education plans (IEPs), support behavioral management strategies, and facilitate engaging instructional activities aligned with curriculum standards. This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children while gaining valuable experience in special education and early childhood development.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate closely with teachers to develop and implement lesson plans tailored to students’ individual needs, including literacy, math, and curriculum development activities.
- Provide direct support to students during classroom activities, including physical assistance for students with mobility or behavioral challenges.
- Assist in managing classroom behavior by applying positive behavior management techniques and supporting students with behavioral disorders or social-emotional needs.
- Support communication efforts using American Sign Language (ASL) or other augmentative communication methods for students with communication difficulties.
- Help create a safe, inclusive environment by maintaining confidentiality of student information and adhering to privacy policies related to sensitive educational records.
- Participate in collaboration meetings with other professionals such as speech therapists, occupational therapists, and special educators to ensure comprehensive student support.
- Support early childhood education initiatives by engaging children in age-appropriate activities that promote childhood development and foundational skills.
Requirements
- Prior experience working with children, especially those with disabilities or special education needs, is highly preferred.
- Knowledge of Deaf education, autism spectrum disorders support strategies, and behavior management techniques is desirable.
- Familiarity with the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) guidelines and IEP procedures is a plus.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively collaborate with team members and communicate with students.
- Ability to handle confidential information discreetly and professionally at all times.
- Experience working in classroom support roles within special education or private school settings is advantageous.
- Basic math skills and understanding of childhood development principles are important for supporting instructional activities.
- Flexibility to assist with toddler care or early childhood activities as needed.
