- Key Role in Lead Up to 2027 NSW State Election
- Critical Policy Costing Function
- Fixed term contract up to mid-June 2027
Established under the Parliamentary Budget Officer Act 2010, the Parliamentary Budget Officer is an independent officer of Parliament, entirely separate from the Executive Government. The appointee will lead a small, high-performing team responsible for providing costings of election policies in response to requests by parliamentary leaders and preparing budget impact statements for all costed policies.
This is an apolitical role demanding the strictest levels of impartiality, confidentiality and sensitivity. The work will be subject to intense public and media scrutiny. Critical to success will be the ability to provide high-quality economic and fiscal analysis, exercise sound independent judgement, and build effective relationships with key stakeholders across Parliament, government and the public sector.
The successful candidate will bring senior executive experience in government, financial services or professional advisory, with an in-depth understanding of the economy, public policy, political processes and the machinery of government. Tertiary qualifications in economics or a related discipline, and hands-on expertise in the costing of policies, are essential.
