This is a part-time, work from home freelance position with flexibility and with some possible travel.
We are a nationally recognized Long Term Disability Law Firm, with over 35 years of experience serving Canadians across the country. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a seasoned Team that is focused on helping people fight insurance companies to get the Disability Benefits they deserve.
The Discovery Lawyer supports the Litigation Team, and specifically Mediation Lawyers, in representing clients in claims against insurance companies. Working alongside our Litigation Team, the Discovery Lawyer plays an integral role by reviewing client information, preparing clients for Discovery, attending Discoveries and then reporting back to the Litigation Team on the outcome. The Discovery Lawyer must also provide emotional support to clients.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare clients for Discovery and attend Discovery sessions (Plaintiff and Defendant)
- Report on Discovery outcomes to the Mediation Lawyer and Litigation Team
- Respond to client questions (via phone/chat/email/text) in a timely, compassionate manner
- Collaborate with team members and contribute to case strategy
- Be adaptable to changing workflows and business needs
- Other duties as assigned.
Basic (Required) Qualifications
- Law Degree, and called to the Bar in a minimum of one Canadian province, including Alberta.
- 2-5+ years of Insurance Litigation experience, in a law firm or insurance company.
- Highly skilled and personable communicator, fluent in English, with a strong ability to interact effectively with all clients. Being bilingual or multilingual would be considered an asset.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to effectively communicate (written and verbal).
- Excellent communication, teamwork and people management skills.
- Professional, empathetic, and client-focused demeanor
- Ability to achieve targets.
- Self-motivated, with a drive for over-performance and a strong desire to help people in crisis.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Long-Term Disability (LTD), Short-Term Disability (STD), or other insurance benefits disputes
- Personal injury litigation experience would also be considered an asset
- Bilingual or multilingual skills would be considered a strong asset
- Willingness to travel occasionally (up to 25%)
- Proven success in overachieving targets.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $85.00-$100.00 per hour
