Assistant Cook Job Description
Job Summary
We are working with a secondary school who are eager to appoint an assistant cook ASAP. The role is part time, 25 hours a week working 9-2.30 each day.
Duties
To prepare the service area, hot cupboards and other equipment at the point of service for the efficient and effective service of the food.
- To assist in the preparation and serving of food and beverages.
- To clean own area on a daily basis all catering areas to an agreed standard.
- To undergo on and off site job training sessions as required by the school.
- Any duties as required to ensure the dining area and kitchen is in a clean, hygienic and safe condition, and that the food service is effective and efficient.
- Monitor stock and supplies cataloguing as required
- Ensure effective portion control and minimise wastage to ensure service is financially viable
- To plan, prepare and deliver attractive, healthy menu options for our students and staff, in conjunction with the school management.
- To manage the purchasing, storage and usage of stock to make sure efficient use of stock and waste minimised
- To be responsible for food safety & hygiene monitoring and record keeping in upper school and ensure it is in line with statutory requirements
- To deputise for the Catering Manager in his/her absence and ensure cooking is maintained throughout upper school.
- To collect money from the cash top up machines daily and ensure secure delivery to Catering Manage
Qualifications
- Previous experience in hospitality or catering is preferred but not essential.
- Knowledge of food safety practices is highly desirable.
- Experience in food preparation or restaurant settings would be advantageous.
- Excellent communication skills and a friendly disposition are essential for interacting with clients and guests.
- Ability to work well under pressure while maintaining attention to detail.
- Flexibility to work varied hours, including evenings and weekends, as required by event schedules.
