PART-TIME FITNESS CENTER SPECIALIST II
This position is for 15-29 hours per week; You must be able to work morning, evening, and weekend shifts.

DEFINITION
To assist with organizing and supervising recreation programs, educational activities and programs for youth and adults in the La Porte Recreation Fitness Center.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives general supervision from the Recreational Superintendent. May receive functional supervision from Office Coordinator and other management staff.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Demonstrate how to use cardio and weight machines.
  • Perform daily pool checks.
  • Issue, receive, and has custody of recreation equipment.
  • Inspect facility, equipment, and recommend maintenance and repair work as needed.
  • Maintain a clean atmosphere in office and facilities.
  • Observe necessary precautions to secure the safety of recreation participants and spectators.
  • Assist in maintaining cleanliness of outside grounds of fitness center and parking lot.
  • Understand and administer the fitness center policies, and assist with membership check-in.
  • Assist with preparation and distribution of flyers and posters, setting up facilities for special events.
  • Maintain activity calendars and bulletin boards.
  • Type and proofread a variety of reports, letters, memos and statistical charts.
  • Assist with weekly operations of recreation centers, rentals and tours; assist Lessee with any reasonable requests; report any incidents and/or accidents to the person "on call"; and report any problems to immediate supervisor.
  • Perform general clerical activities such as light typing and filing.
  • Assist with daily transactions including but not limited to admissions, rental reservations, memberships and activity registrations.
  • Respond to complaints and requests for information on regulations, procedures, systems and precedents relating to responsibilities assigned.
  • Research, compile and analyze data for special projects, collect and assemble data and background materials for a variety of reports.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
For indefinite periods of time - mobility within an office and field environment; exposure to fume, odors, dust, mites, radiation, explosive, mechanical, electrical, and chemical hazards; exposure to constant noise; writing; walking; typing; twisting body; stooping; standing; squatting; sorting; sitting; seeing; running; pushing, pulling, lifting, and carrying up to 50 pounds; kneeling; filing; cleaning; reading; decision making; reaching above shoulder level; using both hands for simple and firm grasping; clarity of hearing; communicating clearly and effectively, in person, and by telephone; fine finger manipulation; operation of specific equipment at Fitness Center, small hand tools, personal computer, typewriter, and calculator.
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
  • Civic Rec – Recreation Management Software
  • Microsoft Office Software
  • General knowledge of fitness, sports, and sports injury treatment/prevention.
  • General knowledge of fitness equipment.
Ability to:
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with public groups, agencies, school officials, the media and others contacted in the course of work.
  • Prepare and distribute publicity concerning new and on-going programs and activities.
  • Promote, organize and implement a wide range of recreation/fitness activities.
  • Flexibility in working hours, 15- 29 hours weekly, possibly six days a week.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
  • High School Diploma or GED
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain within three months an Emergency First Aid and a valid C.P.R. Certification.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain within six months an Red Cross Lifeguard Certification.
