Organization Overview: The Goddard Riverside Community Center (Goddard Riverside) and the Stanley M. Isaacs Neighborhood Center (Isaacs Center) are well-established Manhattan community-based agencies that support services to approximately 30,000 New Yorkers. Program Description: Goddard Riverside invests in people & strengthens community, serving more than 20,000 people throughout New York City with a variety of programs for all ages. We work within a social justice framework to create a fair and just society where all people have the opportunity to make choices that lead to better lives for themselves and their families.
The Monument provides transitional housing to single adults experiencing homelessness with the goal of permanent housing. On-site services include case management, entitlement assistance, meals, recreation, and 24 hours/7 days a week front desk security and staffing.

Position Summary: The Porters main objective is to provide building maintenance and safety to the office, staff and residents. Conducting daily routine cleaning of all interior and exterior grounds. The porters will report directly to the Superintendent, ensuring the building is up to code.

Schedule: Saturday-Sunday 6am-2pm

Hourly Range: $21.43 - $23.63

Candidates must have the required qualifications to be considered for the position. The salary offer will be based on the candidate’s number of years experience in the exact or comparable position and additional preferred qualifications will be taken into account.
Roles, Responsibilities and Essential Duties
  • Follow a daily checklist of tasks each shift to ensure the cleanliness of the building that includes but not limited to:
  • Sanitize and deep clean high-touch areas at a high frequency
  • Cleaning and sanitizing bathrooms
  • Collect building garbage and recycling, bring bins to the sidewalk on designated days and times
  • Sweep, mop, and clean up the cafeteria after every meal
  • Sweep and mop the lobby area
  • Ensure the front of the building is clean and presentable, free of debris and garbage
  • Shovel and apply salt during seasonal days
  • Help to maintain the building free of pests and vermin
  • Alert Super to inventory needs and when the building is running low on cleaning supplies
  • Work collaboratively with building staff to assist residents and ensure continuous deep cleaning and sanitation of the building with special attention to the high-touch areas, such as light switches, door handles, countertops, handrails, elevator buttons, faucet handles, etc.
  • Turnover of rooms: clean and prepare units after a resident’s discharge to ensure it is ready for the next occupant.
  • Assist Super with light repairs as needed
  • Update and maintain cleaning log
  • Keep storage areas clean and free of litter and clutter
  • Other tasks/projects as assigned.

Qualifications/Educational Requirements
  • At least 1 year of experience in custodial, cleaning work is required, commercial property cleaning experience is a plus
  • Must undergo funder required background check
  • High School Diploma/GED required

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
  • Ability to read and write in English, bilingual in Spanish a plus
  • Work as a team, cooperative, “can-do” attitude
  • Provide a friendly atmosphere with residents of the facility with the utmost respect for boundaries
  • Ability to track inventory and place orders
  • Ability to make basic repairs (preferred)
  • Basic computer skills (email, excel spreadsheets)

Physical Requirements
  • Frequent standing, bending, lifting to 50lbs
  • Ability to stand and walk for the duration of the shift (aside from breaks)

Work Environment
  • Residential building, 110 units, and 7 floors
