About the Role

As a Patient Care Supervising Hygienist / Clinical Instructor, you will play an important role in both patient care and student education within the Risio Institute Patient Care Clinic.

You’ll provide clinical oversight, mentorship, and instruction while helping students translate their education into real-world patient care.

Patient Care Supervising Hygienist Responsibilities

  • Conduct limited patient examinations and review student Oral Care Assessments.
  • Prescribe appropriate treatment in collaboration with student findings.
  • Review assessment findings and treatment recommendations with students and patients.
  • Review radiographs with patients when appropriate.
  • Refer patients to external dental offices or specialists when required.
  • Evaluate specific student clinical skills as requested by the Clinical Coordinator.
  • Supervise patient care sessions and support efficient clinical flow.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to students and faculty.
  • Ensure infection control, asepsis, safety, and clinical protocols are consistently followed.
  • Help maintain a professional, respectful, and positive clinical environment.

Clinical Instructor Responsibilities

  • Communicate clinical module expectations and skill requirements to students.
  • Oversee the flow of students, faculty, and patients throughout clinical sessions.
  • Provide hands-on guidance, mentorship, and support.
  • Evaluate and document student clinical skills and submit assessments to the Clinical Coordinator.
  • Model and reinforce proper asepsis and clinical protocols.
  • Monitor clinical supplies and communicate inventory needs.
  • Assist with student module debriefs and provide constructive feedback.
  • Contribute to an engaging, supportive, and professional learning environment.

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for someone who brings clinical expertise and genuine enthusiasm for people and education.

Qualifications

  • Registered Dental Hygienist in good standing with the Alberta College of Dental Hygienists.
  • Minimum 5 years of clinical experience.
  • Valid Alberta practice permit.
  • Strong clinical, treatment planning, and patient care skills.
  • Demonstrated ability or interest in mentoring and educating students.
  • Completion of, or commitment to complete, educational methodology training relevant to adult education.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management abilities.
  • Proficient computer skills.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods during clinical modules.
