Position Summary

United Billing Solutions is seeking a skilled and motivated Patient Collections Specialist to support our growing behavioral health billing operations. The ideal candidate will have prior experience in patient collections within behavioral health treatment, an understanding of admissions processes, and a working knowledge of insurance billing and benefits. This role requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to handle sensitive financial conversations with professionalism and empathy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage outgoing and incoming calls related to outstanding patient balances.
  • Discuss financial responsibilities with patients in a clear, compassionate, and solution-focused manner.
  • Set up and monitor payment plans, process payments, and document all interactions accurately.
  • Review patient accounts for accuracy, insurance application, and remaining patient responsibility.
  • Collaborate with admissions teams to verify patient financial obligations and ensure smooth coordination between billing and admissions.
  • Utilize billing software, EHR systems, and internal platforms to maintain up-to-date account records.
  • Support patients in understanding insurance benefits, deductibles, co-pays, and out-of-pocket estimates.
  • Follow escalation procedures for delinquent accounts while maintaining professionalism and compliance with company policies.
  • Participate in departmental goals related to collections volume, accuracy, and customer service standards.

Qualifications

  • Required: Patient collections experience, ideally within behavioral health treatment.
  • Preferred: Previous admissions experience in a behavioral health, healthcare, or similar setting.
  • General knowledge of insurance billing, benefits verification, and patient responsibility.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and de-escalation skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA standards.
  • Proficiency in computer systems, billing platforms, and Microsoft Office.
  • High attention to detail, organization, and accuracy in documentation.

Compensation & Incentives

  • Hourly Rate: $22.00 – $25.00/hour (based on experience).
  • Performance Incentives: Monthly bonus opportunities tied to collections metrics.
