THE OPPORTUNITY

Do you have lived experience of recovery from gambling-related harm and a passion for helping others on their own recovery journey? CatholicCare is seeking a Peer Worker – GambleAware to join our team in this newly created position.

Drawing on your own experience of recovery from gambling-related harm, you will provide compassionate, person-centred peer support that helps clients build hope, identify recovery goals and connect with supports that promote wellbeing and social inclusion.

Working alongside a multidisciplinary team, you will use your lived experience in a meaningful and purposeful way to strengthen engagement, support recovery journeys and contribute valuable insights to the delivery and improvement of GambleAware services.

Description:
POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Peer Worker – GambleAware utilises lived experience of gambling harm and recovery to provide person-centred, recovery-oriented support to individuals and families impacted by gambling-related harm.

Working within a multidisciplinary team, the role complements clinical and non-clinical interventions under the GambleAware stepped care model, promoting hope, empowerment, and social inclusion.

Skills and Experiences:
EXPERIENCE/CRITERIA

• Provide individual and group-based peer support to clients accessing GambleAware services.
• Support individuals to identify recovery goals and connect with appropriate community, financial, housing, and wellbeing supports.
• Share lived experience ethically and purposefully to enhance engagement and inspire recovery.
• Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential client records in accordance with organisational policies.
• Participate in supervision, team meetings, Communities of Practice, and professional development activities.
• Engage in community education and promotional activities to increase awareness of GambleAware services.
• Contribute lived experience perspectives to service development, evaluation, and quality improvement initiatives.
• Personal or family lived experience of recovering from gambling-related harm.
• Ability to share lived experience in a strengths-based, recovery-oriented, and trauma-informed manner.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and engagement skills.
• Understanding of recovery principles, trauma-informed and family-inclusive practice.
• Ability to maintain professional boundaries, confidentiality, and ethical standards

QUALIFICATIONS

• Certificate IV in Community Services, Mental Health, or willingness to obtain.
• Current NSW Driver Licence and capacity to travel across the region.
• Bachelor qualification in Social Work, Counselling, Public Health or a related field (Desirable).
• Established links with peer networks, community services, or mental health supports (Desirable).
