Job Description
Major Responsibilities
- Under direction, supervise subordinates in enforcing compliance with departmental rules and regulations through the issuance of summonses. Direct and review staff, programs and operations providing informational, educational and safety services to the general public.
- Communicate agency/senior management directives to staff. Ensure compliance with uniform standards, standards of conduct and time & leave procedures.
- Create daily, weekly and biweekly project schedules for staff and hold regularly scheduled staff meetings to disseminate pertinent information.
- Create and maintain accurate files relating to deployment, special events, vehicles, supplies, equipment, time and leave usage and scheduling.
- Train new and existing staff. Evaluate performance and provide constructive criticism and suggestions for improvement.
- Attend Agency, Community Board and neighborhood group meetings. Serve as an Agency representative to the New York City Police Department and Community Council.
- Oversee enforcement initiatives and other special projects.
- Work closely with other city, state and federal agencies in enforcing parks rules and regulations.
- Plan and implement special events. Delegate tasks and assignments to ensure the events are successful.
- Ensure proper maintenance of Parks’ vehicles, work facility and grounds.

ASSOCIATE URBAN PARK RANGER - 60422
Minimum Qualifications
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college; or
2. An associate degree or completion of 60 credits from an accredited college and one year of full-time paid experience in one of the following: law or code enforcement; security; ecology; or as an environmental instructor or ranger in a recognized park, recreation or ranger program, cultural institution, or accredited school; or
3. A four year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and two years of fulltime experience as described in "2" above; or
4. A satisfactory combination of education and experience that is equivalent to "1", "2", or "3" above. College education may be substituted for the required experience in "2" or "3" above on the basis of 5 semester credits for 1 month of experience.
Preferred Skills
1. Prior experience as a step-up PEP Sergeant. 2. Ability to lead and motivate a diverse and varied staff. 3. Excellent communication, time management and organizational skills. 4. Strong sense of initiative with the ability to complete projects and supervisory tasks in a timely manner.

Residency Requirement
Residency in New York City, Nassau, Orange, Rockland, Suffolk, Putnam or Westchester counties required for employees with over two years of city service. New York City residency required within 90 days of hire for all other candidates.
