About the Role

We are seeking Permanent Specialist Plastics Consultant


The successful applicants will join our Plastics Surgical team based at Waikato Hospital. Participation in an on-call roster with elective and acute work at Waikato Hospital and peripheral sites. An interest in Hand Surgery, Cleft lip and palate, Breast or Head and Neck Surgery is desirable as well as Burns. The position will also involve teaching, audit and quality assurance activities.


The Plastics Surgery Unit provides services to its four satellite hospitals and the Midland Region taking in Gisborne, Taranaki and Rotorua.


It is essential that you hold or are eligible for vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand as a Plastics Surgeon for these positions , situated in a highly sought after location.


We are keen to talk to you if you experienced or if you are starting out as a new consultant. Either way you will play a key role in the development of our service.


An average week is never average - you will be working across acute and elective surgery, outpatient clinics, skin shop, teaching and serving a wide geographical spread population of over 860,000.


Positions can be permanent or fixed term, full time or part time by negotiation.

  • Ward rounding on post acute and elective patients
  • Education and training of Junior staff, and other professions

About the Team/Service

Waikato Hospital is a major tertiary referral and teaching centre providing a wide range of plastic surgery services including hand surgery, head and neck reconstructive surgery, lower limb, cleft lip & palate, as well as being the regional burns unit for the Midlands Region. The department supports 5 regional secondary care and four satellite hospitals.

The successful applicant will join a well-established, dynamic team of 8 SMO and 3 MOSS supported by a strong multi disciplinary team.
