We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced product management professional to join our BNZ Technology team as a Platform Owner, within the Corporate Services Domain.
As a Platform Owner within BNZ Technology, you will maximise the value delivered by the Finance & Procurement application team, ensuring alignment with customer needs, stakeholder expectations, and BNZ’s strategic goals. Serving as the team’s advocate and main link with stakeholders, you’ll drive the development of robust, scalable platform solutions that deliver sustainable business outcomes.
Platform Owners work within business-aligned teams to develop and deliver roadmaps, working collaboratively with Platform Managers as well as Engineering Leads who take the primary responsibility for the goals and development of the technical members of these teams.
This is an Auckland based role. This is a hybrid role with three days in the office per week and two days where you can work flexibly.

What are some day-to-day tasks the successful candidate in this role will complete?
  • Platform Roadmaps: Define and communicate a clear platform vision and strategy aligned with BNZ’s strategic goals, driving the platform team towards operational excellence.
  • Data-Driven Decisions: Apply data analysis and metrics to support decisions that enhance platform reliability, performance, and usability.
  • Prioritization: Prioritise platform enhancements based on customer value, business impact, and resources, ensuring application management aligns with the Critical Hygiene Framework
  • People Leadership: Lead Business Analysts through all employee lifecycle stages—attraction, recruitment, onboarding, development, retention, and offboarding. Foster a culture of trust, collaboration, and accountability to drive performance and alignment with business goals.
  • Risk Management: Mitigate technology risks to ensure security, compliance, and resilience. Resolve incidents to meet recovery SLAs, conduct post-incident reviews, and prioritize actions to improve availability

The Platform Owner role offers the chance to drive the development of robust, scalable platform/ critical applications solutions that deliver sustainable business outcomes. You will balance supporting and developing your Business Analyst(s) while your focus on maximising the value delivered by the platform team, ensuring alignment with customer needs, stakeholder expectations, and BNZ’s strategic goals.

What technical skills are required for this role?
  • Product Ownership Experience: Proven experience as a Product Owner or similar role, ideally in platform products.
  • People Leadership: Experience in leading and developing Business Analysts through all stages of the employee lifecycle.
  • Technical Knowledge: Understanding of software development processes and platform architecture.
  • Backlog Management: Expertise in creating, prioritising, and managing a product backlog effectively.
  • Data-Driven Decision Making: Ability to use data and KPIs to inform prioritisation and product decisions.
  • Agile Methodologies: Proficient in agile practices, including sprint planning and user story development.
  • Stakeholder Management: Skilled at aligning with and managing expectations of key stakeholders.

Success in this role will be demonstrated by effectively driving the platform team towards operational excellence, ensuring alignment with customer needs, stakeholder expectations, and BNZ’s strategic goals. The candidate will also be successful in promoting a culture of trust, collaboration, and accountability, and ensuring platform stability, scalability, security, and compliance.
