Volunteering is a great way to support your local children and young adults' hospice whilst making new friends, gaining experience and having fun. If you are over the age of 18 and have a few hours on a Monday to give as a volunteer at our Hospice in Sutton Scotney, Winchester, then we would love to hear from you.
Hydrotherapy is a great way for the children and young people to relax, stretch and strengthen their muscles, feel free and have fun! The physiotherapy team at the hospice have started a hydrotherapy clinic to offer more sessions for the children and young people. They need volunteers help to enable this clinic to succeed and possibly expand in the future.
The Hydrotherapy clinic will run most Mondays from 10.00am to 2.00pm. Slots will each run for 1-hour, broken into 15minute preparation time, 30 minutes in the hydrotherapy pool and 15 minutes post session time. Volunteers are welcome to volunteer for 1 to 3 sessions each Monday. Additional days maybe added in the future with prior agreement.


Key Responsibilities


  • Prepare equipment and the hydrotherapy poolside in advance for each hydrotherapy pool session.
  • Support hospice staff with hydrotherapy pool session for children and young adults.
  • Willingness to enter the pool if required.
  • Watch the child or young adult and monitor for any chances e.g. seizures, pain or distress and inform those in the pool.
  • Time the session.
  • Keeping the pool side tidy at all times.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise


  • Lifeguard training or basic lifesaving skills would be desirable but not essential.
  • Ability to swim and be water confident.
  • Be physically able to get on and off the floor for pool evacuation procedure
  • Passion for working with children and young adults.
  • Willingness to work as part of a team.
We will provide a thorough training and induction programme and offer lots of help and support to ensure you have a great volunteering experience and really feel valued. Volunteers will need to be DBS checks and complete safeguarding training. Volunteers will also need to complete poolside training for the role.
