Postdoc In Engineering Science - Development Of Constructed Wetlands For The Mitigation Of Micropollutants

About the role...

A two-year postdoctoral position in engineering is available at the Chair for ‘Urban Water Management’ (Prof. Dr. Joachim Hansen), Department of Engineering. The successful candidate will be hired as follows:

  • 80% in the frame of the WE-TREAT project funded by the Luxembourg National Research Fund (FNR) under the INTER/Water4All Project (Principal Investigator: Dr. Silvia Venditti), with Algarve University (Portugal) acting as the Leading Partner; We-Treat envisions innovation through the optimization of phytoremediation systems that employ plant elite ecotypes of wetland plants and associated rhizome-microbiome on the integration of Constructed Wetlands as a post-treatment step for the removal of micropollutants
  • 20% in the frame of the PREWAPHARM project funded by Interreg NWE (Principal Investigator: Prof. Joachim Hansen), with TCCN (Netherlands) acting as the Leading Partner; Prewapharm aims to accelerate the implementation of interventions that reduce pharmaceutical residues in water at the source through the development of a joint strategy and regional actions plans. Advanced oxidation processes and Constructed wetlands will be tested at the hospital level as a decentralized approach

Additional tasks are:

  • Contributing to teaching (lectures for Master students and thesis supervision)
  • Assistance in PhD student supervision
  • Writing of grant applications, project reports, and scientific papers
  • Close collaboration and knowledge exchange with national and international collaborators
Your profile...
  • A PhD in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Environmental Chemistry or related disciplines
  • A proven experience in process engineering with design, commissioning and optimisation according to R&D’s specifications
  • Strong background in water monitoring and water/wastewater treatment
  • Advanced competence in laboratory and analytical work is necessary
  • Ability to work effectively in an international and multidisciplinary team and good communication skills (oral and written)
  • A proven experience in collaborative projects
  • Fluent written and verbal communication skills in English are mandatory, skills in French, German and/or Luxembourgish are a bonus but not necessary
