Taitara Mahi - Pou Hono - Community Connector

Hastings District Council aspires to a kaitiakitanga conducted in good faith at all times with respect to the aspirations and expectations of Māori. To support us in these goals, we are looking for a Pou Hono - Community Connector to work with our Māori community, their wellbeing and needs.

The responsibility of this position requires flexibility and adaptability to be the single point of contact for cyclone impacted whenua Māori and or Māori community members including Māori landowners, residents, Post-Settlement Governance Entities (PSGEs), Hapū Authorities, Taiwhenua, Iwi, marae, Māori Trusts, and Māori Incorporations with a particular focus on navigating Council processes and in connecting with other external services.

The Pou Hono - Community Connector will also be involved on the community development of our various other communities within the scope of local government’s four wellbeing priorities – social, economic, environmental and cultural, by supporting the wider team.

Ōu wheako –about you
To be successful in this role you will:

  • Have a relevant tertiary qualification and/or experience in community / social development, engagement or a similar discipline is essential.
  • Previous experience within emergency recovery / social work or mental health is desirable.
  • Have proven experience in working within communities with people from diverse backgrounds and establishing rapport with community groups and across Council.
  • A good understanding and background in te reo Māori me ōna tikanga.
  • Be passionate about making a difference and working with the community.
  • Be well organised with an ability to prioritise and manage multiple projects.
  • Have excellent communication and customer service skills.

This is a full-time role, however part-time hours may be considered.
