The Position of the Wellness Advocate is likely unlike other positions you are applying for, in that this position is a proactive approach to health and wellness. The role is to promote employee Wellness through integrated living, healthy choices, and self- responsibility; educating employees on how to get healthy and stay that way.

The Wellness Advocate will provide support to our client by creating a safe environment for workers to share their personal stories, struggles and goals regarding wellness outcomes, provide basic medical assessments to support wellness activities and to assist Medcor Canada clinicians when/where appropriate in emergencies.

We want to empower employees to proactively seek support, fostering a sense of confidence that encourages initiative and provides them with the necessary resources and skills to focus on their health and well-being.

The Wellness Advocate is responsible for the intake, screening of clients, and providing nonjudgmental guidance and support. Providing different perspectives on a situation, or proactive strategies and/or education in a specific area is effective in achieving overall well-being and accomplishing goals, while promoting health through a variety of methods: programming, displays, presentations, collaboration with client, management, and staff.

This is a fly in/out position with 1 week in and 1 week out rotation out of Saskatoon. You must be able to get to and from the airport.

A typical day in the life of Medcor Canada’s Wellness Advocate:

  • Drive and promote the Wellness Program with client and employees through meetings, promotional materials, and presentations
  • Attend all training and orientations for Wellness Advocate Program
  • Create and facilitate Wellness Challenges, presentations and promotional material for the employees on the project
  • Work effectively as a team to support and achieve departmental goals and program development. Contributes to planning, implementation, and evaluation of all wellness activities and events
  • Participate in regular staff meetings
  • Demonstrate self-motivation and commitment to this position by providing a safe space where people feel comfortable, at ease and encouraged to participate in their health and wellbeing
  • Facilitate wellness initiatives with confidence and authenticity
  • Encourage employees to take responsibility for their health by teaching the concept of wellness through various health programming methods
  • Share resources and create plans with individual's dependent on specific needs
  • Advocate for and reinforce proactive wellness initiatives on wellness topics such as smoking cessation and nutrition
  • Promote and run blood pressure clinics for the employees onsite
  • Provide care as required, when required as a Primary Care Paramedic, treat injuries and illnesses following Evidence Based Medicine standards, where appropriate
  • Collaborate with client human resources and benefits professionals on medical issues
  • Ensure accuracy and timelines of intake and follow up documentation
  • Demonstrate leadership skills by being responsible for virtual and in-person one on one and group support sessions
  • Work to foster a culture of collaboration and accountability between Medcor Canada advocates, client associates, vendors, and local health providers to maintain constructive working relationships

Qualifications:

  • Saskatchewan license as PCP is required
  • Personal commitment to health and wellness
  • Work independently and as a collaborative team player

  • Enthusiastic attitude providing proactive wellness support and initiatives to increase engagement among the workforce

  • Strong written and verbal communication including listening skills and confidence with public speaking
  • Resourceful and comfortable to learn systems and technology
  • Strong computer skills, including experience using Microsoft office products
  • Have strong ethics and unwavering integrity
  • Detail orientated and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrates initiative to provide solutions
  • Previous work experience in a health promotion/health education position is desirable.
  • Creativity in promoting events and creating event ideas is an asset.
