About the role
The Principal Advisor plays a crucial role in providing strategic insight and advice, facilitating effective solutions, and maintaining strong relationships with key stakeholders. This position requires a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing NZQA, the public sector, and government, along with excellent communication and leadership skills.
Additionally, the role is instrumental in assisting the Assessment Division transform our organisational strategy into actionable operational plans. You'll provide expert performance measurement advice to various business units, ensuring that performance measures are well-aligned with the benefits of key initiatives and investments. Your strategic insights will drive our success and help us achieve our goals.
Skills and experience
Are you an experienced professional, passionate about supporting the aspirations of young people, able to distil complex information into plain language, and have a strong focus on attention to detail?
We are looking for a person who has high level of understanding and appreciation of the political landscape and wider Government priorities and be able to work to demanding deadlines across multiple projects. The ability also to work in te Ao Maori would be advantageous.
You are strategic and analytical in your thinking, able to make decisions and problem solve, while being empathetic and build strong relationships. You will be able to actively listen to our diverse range of internal and external stakeholders, develop high quality advice, and execute organisational and communications strategies.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Extensive experience in the public sector, including advising on policy, service delivery, strategy and planning, parliamentary processes, and Ministerial responses.
- Sound knowledge of the Government's direction, policy priorities, planning and budgeting processes.
- Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to tailor complex messages to a range of audiences.
- Experience working strategically and applying critical thinking, as well as sound judgement in the development of options and provision of advice.
- Experience managing the end-to-end development and delivery of integrated and measurable communications strategies and plans for most complex projects and issues
- Experience in the development and presentation of well-articulated, unambiguous, and robust advice, papers, and reports.
- A proven ability to use data and insights to identify trends, risks, and opportunities, to influence and guide organisational and system-level decision making.
- Experience in developing, maintaining, and influencing relationships internally and externally, across various groups, including at a senior level.
