Principal Applied Scientist, Cloudwatch, Amazon Intelligent Operations

• Ph.D. degree in Statistics, Computer Science, Applied Math, or a related field
• Hands-on experience in solving difficult machine learning problems
• Expert at more than one major programming languages (C++, Java, or similar) and at least one scripting language (Perl, Python, or similar)
• Demonstrated ability to serve as a technical lead
• Excellent writing skills for presenting business cases and scientific models with rigorous analyses that support results/conclusions to influence important decisions.
• Strong fundamentals in problem solving, algorithm design and complexity analysis
• Proven track in leading, mentoring, and growing teams of scientists

AWS Utility Computing (UC)provides product innovations — from foundational services such as Amazon’s Simple Storage Service (S3) and Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), to consistently released new product innovations that continue to set AWS’s services and features apart in the industry. The CloudWatch team in Dublin is looking for a world class Principal Applied Scientist to lead our teams to create the next generation of AI based monitoring solution.

CloudWatch is the observability platform of AWS, built for developers, system operators, site reliability engineers (SRE), and IT managers. CloudWatch collects monitoring and operational data in the form of logs, metrics, and events, providing a unified view of AWS resources, applications and services that run on AWS, and on-premises servers. Customers use CloudWatch to set high resolution alarms, visualize logs and metrics side by side, take automated actions, troubleshoot issues, and discover insights to optimize their applications, and ensure they are running smoothly.

CloudWatch is one of the largest real time data platforms in the world, processing more than 13 quadrillion metric observations per month! This requires teams in CloudWatch to innovate at an unprecedented scale. In CloudWatch we love giving customers what they want: high quality, highly usable, highly available services. Key job responsibilities
As an Principal Applied Scientist, you will take on challenging and ambiguous customer problems, distill customer requirements, and then deliver solutions that either leverage existing academic research or utilize your own out-of-the-box but pragmatic thinking. You will research and development of novel approaches for anomaly detection, root cause analysis, and provide intelligent insights from vast amounts of monitoring and observability data. You will collaborate with scientists and engineers across CloudWatch team as well as directly with customers. You will hire, develop, grow and mentor our junior scientists.
