Principal Engineer, Mechanics – R&D
OUR ROLE
We are looking for a visionary Principal Engineer, Mechanics to join our R&D team at Fiskars Group. This is a senior-level role for a mechanical engineering expert who thrives in the front-end innovation space, where ideas are born and boundaries are pushed.
Your mission? To dream big and make it real - developing groundbreaking mechanisms and concepts that redefine functionality and elevate user experience. You will lead early-stage ideation, explore unconventional solutions, and turn “crazy ideas” into tangible prototypes that inspire the future of our products.
As a Principal Engineer, you will combine deep technical expertise with an innovator’s mindset, driving projects from concept to feasibility. You’ll collaborate with industrial designers, product managers, and global partners to ensure that bold ideas become manufacturable solutions without compromising creativity.
Your work will directly influence innovation and sustainability, introducing new mechanisms, optimizing designs for resource efficiency, and supporting Fiskars Group’s commitment to creating products that improve everyday life. This position is based in Espoo, Finland, and reports to our Senior Manager, R&D. The role is full-time and hybrid.
WHAT YOU’LL DO AT FISKARS GROUP
Responsibilities:
- Lead front-end innovation projects, generating bold ideas and transforming them into viable concepts.
- Develop new mechanical mechanisms and solutions that set benchmarks for performance and usability.
- Conduct advanced analysis and simulations to validate innovative designs.
- Collaborate closely with industrial designers and cross-functional teams to merge creativity with technical feasibility.
- Mentor and inspire other engineers to embrace innovation and challenge conventional thinking.
- Stay ahead of emerging technologies, materials, and design trends to fuel disruptive innovation.
WHO YOU ARE
Experience:
- MSc/BSc degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- Minimum 8+ years of experience in mechanical design and product development, with proven expertise in mechanism design.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD tools (SolidWorks preferred) and knowledge of plastic and metal manufacturing technologies.
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, including FEA.
- Strong ideation skills and a track record of turning unconventional ideas into successful products.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally.
