Principal Materials Engineer / Senior Concrete Scientist – Sustainable Construction Materials

About Us

Beaumont Bailey is an executive search firm specialising in senior leadership appointments across industrial manufacturing and engineering environments.

We are supporting the build of an engineering function for a first-of-its-kind manufacturing facility in sustainable building materials, based in Denmark. This is a proprietary industrial process combining advanced materials science and manufacturing. The organisation is scaling rapidly and offers the opportunity to join a mission-driven business focused on sustainable construction.

The Role

Lead development and optimisation of cementitious materials within a first-of-a-kind manufacturing environment.

Act as a senior technical contributor, bridging laboratory research and industrial production. Translate R&D outputs into scalable, production-ready formulations, with direct impact on product performance and manufacturing consistency.

Provide technical guidance across materials and testing while working closely with engineering and operations.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimise concrete and cementitious material formulations
  • Design and execute experimental programmes using structured statistical methods
  • Translate laboratory results into pilot and production scale processes
  • Define and refine mix designs to meet performance and durability targets
  • Support implementation of materials into manufacturing workflows
  • Analyse and manage experimental data to inform decision making
  • Contribute to technical standards, testing protocols, and SOPs
  • Collaborate with R&D, engineering, and operations teams
  • Support product validation, certification, and continuous improvement

Required

  • MSc or PhD in materials science, civil engineering, concrete science, or similar
  • Strong experience in cementitious materials, concrete technology, or related fields
  • Experience developing and testing concrete formulations
  • Understanding of scaling materials from lab to production
  • Expertise in mix design, aggregates, and mechanical/durability testing
  • Strong grounding in experimental design and data analysis

Desirable

  • Experience in precast or ready-mix concrete environments
  • Exposure to industrial manufacturing or pilot plant environments
  • Experience with alternative binders or novel materials
  • Familiarity with standards, testing methods, and certification processes
