Introduction:
Safe Steps is the only 24/7, family violence response centre in Victoria, providing a “state-wide entry point” for victim-survivors of domestic and family violence. Services include information and referral, crisis response, specialist family violence risk assessment, safety planning, Webchat, and access to supported crisis accommodation.
Our vision is safety, support and respect for all victim-survivors of domestic and family violence.
Our practice is trauma-informed and guided by evidence. We provide services to all victim-survivors and recognise that most of our work is dedicated to the needs of women and children which reflects the gendered nature of domestic and family violence.

THE ROLE
Safe Steps is seeking an accomplished and visionary clinical leader to step into the role of Principal Practitioner – Centre of Excellence.
Reporting directly to the CEO, this senior role is responsible for leading clinical governance, practice quality, supervision frameworks, and sector representation to ensure Safe Steps remains at the forefront of contemporary family violence crisis response.
This is a unique opportunity to influence practice excellence across a statewide service while contributing to system reform and innovation.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead clinical governance and high-risk clinical oversight across Safe Steps services
Drive quality improvement and evidence-informed practice initiatives
Develop and oversee clinical supervision and reflective practice models
Strengthen workforce capability through training and professional development
Monitor performance, KPIs and service quality standards
Prepare strategic reports and briefings for the CEO and Board
Represent Safe Steps in sector forums and contribute to system-wide reform
Manage and supervise the Centre of Excellence leadership team
Skills and Experiences:
KEY SELECTION CRITERIA
Relevant tertiary qualification (Psychology, Social Work or Counselling) meeting REC 209 requirements
Formal accreditation and experience in clinical supervision
Extensive senior experience in specialist family violence service delivery
Advanced knowledge of trauma-informed and evidence-based therapeutic approaches
Demonstrated ability to lead clinical governance models and quality frameworks
Strong capability in stakeholder engagement, including senior government relationships
Proven leadership in building workforce capability and embedding best practice
Ability to prepare strategic, evidence-informed board papers and briefings
Alignment with Safe Steps’ values and trauma-informed practice
Current Working with Children Check and willingness to undergo a National Police Check.
Remuneration & Benefits
Salary range: $160,000 – $180,000 + superannuation
