At the Government Communications Security Bureau (GCSB) | Te Tira Tiaki, our mission is to protect and enhance Aotearoa New Zealand's security and wellbeing. We provide Signals Intelligence and Cyber Security and resilience to organisations of national significance to successfully navigate in an unpredictable world.
We are looking for someone to step into this Product Owner role with a great attitude, with high energy and the tenacity to achieve those outcomes for customers, even when confronted with complexity and ambiguity.
The role
In this role you will drive how we use and adapt IT systems to deliver intelligence products and services to customers. You will define the vision and strategy for a suite of products in this domain, developing a clear and achievable roadmap, leveraging your team of engineers and other cross-functional expertise across the wider directorate so that the Intelligence Community is able engage with its customers efficiently and effectively.
You will work closely with product business owners, suppliers, customers, stakeholders, and those who provide administrative support for systems. A key part of the role will be to ensure that business needs and priorities are understood, and reflected, through their defined product direction, and opportunities for improvement are communicated back to stakeholders.
While the ability to do some hands-on work would be desirable, the main focus of this role is the customers, acting as an effective interface between them and technical teams.
The appointing salary for this role will be between $142,093 - $151,566 depending on experience.

- Engaging with management effectively across other domains and technical areas to communicate priorities
- Representing the voice of the customer through strong relationships and effective communication
- Driving innovation, automation, optimisation and continual improvement within technology domains
It is also a bonus if you have:
- Strong technology background, in particular software development and/or UX.
- Good understanding of DevSecOps, and what it means to be working Agile
This role requires regular interactions with its key stakeholders, so the successful applicant must be willing to work fully on-premise in Wellington.

Before you apply
Working within our unique environment means we have to ensure you're eligible for employment.
You must:
- Have been a New Zealand Citizen for at least 10 years
OR
Hold a current NZ Residency Class Visa and ideally have been a citizen of the UK, USA, Canada or Australia for at least 10 years
- Be eligible to obtain a Top Secret Special (TSS) security clearance
- Ordinarily, this means you'll have a 15 year checkable background in countries NZSIS Vetting can make meaningful and reliable checks.
