Heath Outdoor Products, located just outside of Grand Rapids in Coopersville, MI, is a leading manufacturer of wild bird products. We are currently recruiting for a 1st Shift Production Leader.

JOB SUMMARY: The Production Leader coordinates the manufacturing operations on the production floor, and works directly with the Material Handlers, Machine Operators, and Line Packers and complies with all safety, quality, quantity, and housekeeping standards.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Coordinate and track the flow of production through the department to meet the production schedule.

2. Work closely with the Supervisor, and Material Handler to make sure that the production line is ready at the beginning of the shift, and that all required materials are readily available to support the daily production operations.

3. Work closely with the Machine Operator to make sure that all supporting documentation is completed for every production run, and that all key indicators are reported to the Supervisor.

4. Work with the Supervisor to improve production efficiencies, reduce costs, and coordinate 5S programs.

5. Provide strong shop floor leadership. Report, and review disciplinary opportunities with the Supervisor.

6. Recommend improvements to production processes, methods and controls using Lean Manufacturing concepts and processes.

7. Report any and all safety concerns, incidents, or accidents to the Supervisor immediately, and support departmental safety initiatives.

8. Maintain adherence to company policies, safety standards, and good housekeeping practices.

9. Maintains thorough knowledge of all processes and equipment.

10. Reports any process issues to the Supervisor, and Maintenance.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

 Acts as a back-up for the Machine Operator, Material Handler, and Supervisor.

 Performs all other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:  3-5 years in production leadership.  Solid leadership skills.  Able to communicate with employees at all levels within the organization.  Working understanding of operations and equipment.  Must be PC literate; Microsoft Word and Excel competency.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $20.00 - $24.00 per hour

Schedule:

• 8 hour shift
• Day shift
• Monday to Friday
• Weekends as needed

Experience:

• Manufacturing: 3 years (Preferred)
