The Australian National Maritime Museum is seeking a motivated and experienced Project Coordinator to join the Creative team in a full-time, non-ongoing role for a period of 18 months.

About the Role
As the Project Coordinator, Content and Storytelling, you will help bring ideas, stories, and experiences to life through the delivery of innovative creative, digital, research, and exhibition projects that connect audiences with the Museum in meaningful ways.
Working closely with the Program Delivery Lead, you will play an integral role in coordinating and delivering projects from concept through to completion, ensuring outcomes align with the Museum’s strategic vision and creative ambitions. You will apply sound judgement, strong organisational skills, and a collaborative approach to manage project activities, support planning processes, and keep multiple priorities moving forward in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives on collaboration and enjoys working across multidisciplinary teams to turn ideas into engaging audience experiences. You will contribute to strengthening project management practices, coordinating resources effectively, and building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to deliver high-quality outcomes.
You are a proactive and creative thinker with a passion for storytelling, project delivery, and creating impactful experiences that inspire, engage, and connect communities with culture, history, and ideas.
Please note: This recruitment process is intended to fill both current and future vacancies. While the position on offer is non-ongoing, a merit pool of suitable applicants may be established to fill similar ongoing and non-ongoing positions within the next 18 months.
Key Accountabilities
Under limited direction, this position is responsible for delivering the following functions:
- Coordinate and support the scheduling and tracking of project activities, milestones, and deliverables ensuring projects progress in line with agreed timeframes and priorities.
- Maintain accurate project documentation and records including briefs agendas approvals, governance documentation and project communications ensuring records are up to date and accessible.
- Monitor project progress, identify risks, issues and dependencies and escalate matters where appropriate to support effective project delivery and governance.
- Support the Program Delivery Lead in ensuring all projects and initiatives align with the Museum’s vision, strategic objectives and audience outcomes.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of project plans, workflows and delivery approaches that support innovation, partnerships, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to support project coordination and resolve routine issues and facilitate effective cross-functional collaboration.
- Communicate project updates, risks, outcomes and key information clearly and in a timely manner to relevant stakeholders.
- Support resource coordination activities, including tracking the utilisation of personnel, budgets, materials and project management tools and reporting processes.
- Identify opportunities to improve project workflows, systems and administrative processes contributing to continuous improvement across project delivery practices.
- Model and promote the Museum’s values of diversity, inclusion, and wellbeing contributing to a positive, collaborative and high performing team culture through active participation in team and development activities.
The successful candidate will demonstrate their capacity against the following:
- Demonstrated experience coordinating and supporting the delivery of projects or events within defined timeframes and budgets including monitoring progress and supporting project governance and reporting processes.
- Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities, track workflows and project activities, identify risks or issues and deliver agreed outcomes.
- Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare project documentation.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders and contribute to team outcomes.
- Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement, inclusion, and organisational values.
Qualifications and/or relevant experience required
Mandatory:
- Experience with project management tools and practices.
- Knowledge of governance and compliance processes in a cultural or public institution.
- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
