Project Director– Greenfield / FOAK Industrial Manufacturing

About Beaumont Bailey

Beaumont Bailey is a specialist executive search firm focused on building leadership teams for industrial, manufacturing, and advanced materials organisations globally.

We partner with high-growth, innovation-led businesses to identify individuals who can lead complex, first-of-a-kind projects, bridging strategy, engineering, and execution in environments where there is no established playbook.

The Opportunity

We are supporting a pioneering materials technology company operating at the intersection of sustainable building materials and industrial manufacturing. Our client has developed a commercially proven, low-carbon alternative to traditional cement, now entering a critical phase of industrial expansion and replication.

With a fully operational production facility in Denmark, the business is moving into its next phase:

  • Scaling manufacturing capacity
  • Expanding into new facilities and geographies
  • Delivering first-of-a-kind (FOAK) industrial projects

The Role

We are seeking a Project Director to lead the end-to-end delivery of FOAK manufacturing, expansion, and infrastructure projects, including an expansion of the existing facility and the establishment of new greenfield sites.

Lead end-to-end delivery of capital projects in a first-of-a-kind industrial manufacturing environment.

Oversee greenfield and brownfield developments across manufacturing, R&D integration, and infrastructure.

Accountable for execution from concept through commissioning in a live production and scale-up setting.

You will take ownership of projects from early concept (FEL2/FEL3) through EPC execution, construction, commissioning, and handover, operating in a setting where standards are still being defined and refined in real time

Responsibilities

  • Lead full project lifecycle: concept development, FEED/FEL2/FEL3, detailed design, procurement, construction, commissioning and handover
  • Develop and execute project delivery strategies aligned to operational and scale-up requirements
  • Manage EPC, EPCM, contractors, OEMs, and system integrators across multiple concurrent workstreams
  • Own capital budgets, cost tracking, forecasting, and financial reporting within governance frameworks
  • Define scope, schedule, and resource plans, ensuring alignment across internal stakeholders
  • Identify and manage project risks, implementing mitigation plans and escalation processes
  • Build and lead internal engineering and project delivery capability as the organisation scales
  • Interface closely with operations to ensure constructability, operability, and maintainability of assets
  • Ensure compliance with EU regulations, permitting requirements, safety standards, and quality systems
  • Establish and monitor KPIs across cost, schedule, safety, and quality performance
  • Manage external stakeholder relationships including regulators, local authorities, and partners
  • Provide structured updates to executive leadership and board-level stakeholders

Required Experience

  • 15+ years experience in engineering, construction, or project delivery within industrial environments
  • Proven delivery of manufacturing plant construction or expansion projects
  • Experience managing full lifecycle capital projects in complex environments
  • Strong understanding of EPC, EPCM, and alternative contracting models
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple external partners and stakeholders
  • Experience operating within regulated environments (EU preferred)
  • Strong financial acumen across capital project delivery
  • Engineering degree (chemical, mechanical, civil, industrial or similar)
  • Fluent English

Desirable Experience

  • Greenfield manufacturing project experience in materials, chemical, biotech, or heavy industrial sectors
  • Experience in FOAK or scale-up environments with evolving technical requirements
  • Exposure to process engineering, utilities, and plant layout design
  • Commercial and contractual negotiation experience
  • Familiarity with sustainability, decarbonisation, or alternative materials
  • Project management certification (PMP, IPMA, PRINCE2)
  • Experience building or leading engineering teams in a scaling organisation

Candidate Profile

  • Execution-focused leader with a track record of delivering complex industrial projects
  • Comfortable operating in ambiguity and evolving technical environments
  • Hands-on approach with strong ownership of outcomes
  • Structured thinker with the ability to balance pace, risk, and quality
  • Strong stakeholder manager, able to align technical and non-technical teams
  • Commercially aware with a clear understanding of cost and value drivers
  • Motivated by building new industrial capability rather than maintaining existing assets
