Psychology Project Worker

Studio 3 Ireland Kerry Service

Full-time / Part-time opportunities available (Availability across evenings & weekends)

An opportunity to work in a different way, combining applied psychology, relationship-based practice, and direct support within community services.

About Studio 3 Ireland (Kerry Service)

Studio 3 Ireland is an independent organisation recognised internationally for the development of the Low Arousal Approach.

We support individuals with complex autism and intellectual disabilities, including those whose needs have not always been well met within traditional service models. Our work focuses on creating personalised, community-based supports that are built around the individual, rather than expecting the individual to adapt to existing services.

We work closely with families, services, and multidisciplinary professionals to provide thoughtful, consistent, and sustainable support arrangements.

Our approach

Our work is based on the understanding that behaviour is a form of communication. This role moves beyond traditional behaviour management approaches and instead focuses on understanding the person, reducing stress, and building supportive relationships over time.

We place a strong emphasis on:

  • Reducing stress and promoting a sense of safety
  • Understanding the impact of environment, relationships, and communication
  • Providing calm, respectful, and non-confrontational support
  • Building consistency and predictability in daily life
  • Translating psychological understanding into practical, everyday support

Particular attention is given to the small details such as routine, tone, timing, and expectations, which can have a significant impact on a person’s experience and wellbeing.

The role

This role is a valuable stepping stone to an assistant psychologist post.

Psychology Project Workers will:

  • Work under the guidance of the Project Coordinator and Clinical Psychologist within community-based support services
  • Work directly alongside individuals and staff teams in an applied, practice-focused role with high levels of direct support time
  • Support the implementation of low arousal and trauma-informed approaches in day-to-day practice
  • Assist with monitoring, recording, and analysing support-related information and behavioural data
  • Contribute to support planning, guidelines, and proactive strategies under supervision
  • Model calm, respectful, and reflective practice within staff teams
  • Build collaborative working relationships with families, multidisciplinary professionals, and external agencies
  • Participate in supervision, reflective practice, and ongoing professional development
  • Provide direct support as part of the rota, including day, evening, and occasional night support if required
  • Contribute to a stable, thoughtful, and relationship-based support environment

Service model

Support is provided within small, consistent teams, allowing for continuity, relationship-building, and a calmer overall environment.

This role combines direct support work with opportunities to develop applied skills in psychology, autism-informed practice, data analysis, support planning, and reflective team working.

The emphasis is on understanding the person within the context of their environment, relationships, communication, and overall quality of life.

About you

Suitable applicants are likely to:

  • Hold a degree in Psychology or a related field
  • Have experience in disability, social care, autism support, or related services
  • Demonstrate a calm, reflective, and patient approach
  • Show an ability to reflect on and adapt their practice
  • Have an understanding of autism and behaviours of distress
  • Value dignity, respect, and autonomy in their work
  • Be flexible, thoughtful, and open to learning
  • Work well both independently and as part of a wider team
  • Have a full clean driving licence with access to a vehicle

We particularly welcome applicants who are interested in approaches that move beyond traditional behaviour management models and who value collaborative, person-centred practice.

What we offer

  • Competitive rates of pay
  • Premiums for Sundays, Bank Holidays, and sleepover shifts (where applicable)
  • A supportive and reflective team environment
  • Clinical supervision and support from experienced psychologists
  • Ongoing training in the Low Arousal Approach and trauma-informed practice
  • Access to multidisciplinary learning opportunities within Studio III Clinical Services
  • The opportunity to gain meaningful applied experience in psychology and community support services

To apply

Please submit a CV along with a short cover letter outlining:

  • Your interest in the role
  • Your understanding of person-centred and relationship-based support practices
  • Send to kerry@studio3.org

Pay: €15.50-€17.00 per hour

Application question(s):

  • Are you located in Tralee or surrounding areas?

Licence/Certification:

  • Driving Licence with access to a vehicle? (required)

Work Location: In person
