The Planning and Development Directorate is responsible for the sustainable and responsible development of the City’s neighbourhoods - both residential and commercial. This high performing team deals with a wide range of interesting planning matters to help shape the future of the City for over 243,000 residents and visitors.

About the Position

We are seeking a dedicated and proactive Public Health Project Officer to join our Environmental Health team. This role involves the planning, development, and implementation of the City’s inaugural Public Health Plan. The successful candidate will work closely with the Coordinator Environmental Health and engage with key stakeholders to ensure the effective delivery of public health initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

As a Public Health Project Officer, you will:

  • Develop partnerships and engage stakeholders: Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including local community, businesses, community groups, state government agencies, and non-government organisations, to plan and deliver the City’s Public Health Plan.
  • Facilitate working and advisory groups: Organize and lead groups, and prepare memos/reports for the Manager, Executive, and Council/Committees.
  • Support project management: Assist the Coordinator Environmental Health with the project management of the Public Health Plan, ensuring a disciplined approach to execute projects on time and within quality objectives.
  • Manage day-to-day project activities: Oversee the daily operations of the Public Health Plan project to ensure a coordinated process.
  • Ensure compliance: Adhere to the City’s policies and procedures and maintain a safe working environment for all employees and contractors involved in the project.

About You

  • Tertiary level qualifications in health promotion, environmental health, public health, or project management.
  • Demonstrated experience in health promotion, public health, or project management, including implementing projects, programmes, and/or campaigns.
  • Experience in stakeholder engagement and managing effective partnerships.
  • High-level verbal and written communication skills, including report writing, research, analytical, and evaluation skills.
  • Strong time management skills and the ability to lead and work in a team environment with minimal supervision.
  • Flexible, innovative, and enthusiastic approach to work.
  • Sound knowledge of the functions and structure of Local Government or similar multi-disciplined organisations (desirable).
  • High-level computer literacy skills in word processing systems and personal computer applications, including Microsoft Office applications, and the ability to operate databases and spreadsheets.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the principles and practice of Environmental Health (desirable).

This temporary full-time position is a Level 7 Inside Workforce Agreement position which attracts a salary from $96,731 to $101,823 gross per annum plus superannuation.

To be eligible to work for us, you need to provide, or have ability obtain a:

  • A copy of Australian driving licence
  • National Police Clearance (valid within the last 3 months)
  • Pre-Employment Medical and DAS clearance
  • The right to work in Australia
