Te Haeata/The Opportunity


This role works closely with business lead for Pātaka Whenua and provides senior level technical/functional leadership across MLC strategic priorities to:

  • Deliver technical support to frontline staff.
  • Develop and enhance knowledge base content.
  • Identify, triage, prioritise and implement urgent technology fixes.
  • Scope, prioritise and implement longer term technology fixes and future enhancements.

As a Puna Kōrero Matua you will provide specialist advice, apply proven methodology and help implement business improvements that enhance efficient and effective customer-centric services. You will apply your board and in-depth knowledge of business processes and technology solutions to lead and support the planning and delivery of activities and improvements.

The Puna Kōrero Matua sits within the Te Tiratū team of advisors and analysts who work collaboratively with teams from across the Ministry to manage, plan and deliver projects, improvement initiatives and business-as-usual process and procedure fixes that support Te Kooti Whenua Māori to deliver consistent services to customers.

The Puna Kōrero Matua supports a culture that focuses on the customer, continuous improvement and standardisation, accountability and employee engagement. A key focus of the role is to lead the implementation of small and quick fix business and service improvement initiatives, including knowledge base updates, and establishing and maintaining appropriate and effective internal and external relationships.


Ō pūkenga/Skills and Experience


The role of the Māori Land Court as a people's court is unique and if you believe you can bring value to the work of the court, we will support you to succeed.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Great organisational skills and a high level of integrity and confidentiality.
  • Experience working in a high-paced environment where you are required to respond to changing needs and priorities to manage large workloads.
  • Experience working with other business units, service providers and key stakeholders.
  • Deep understanding of Māori Land Court business processes and the IT solution Pātaka Whenua.
  • A good general knowledge of, and respect for, tikanga Māori and competence in, or a willingness to become competent in, Te Reo Māori.
  • Deep commitment to and evidence of putting the Treaty of Waitangi at the centre of decision-making and knowledge of Crown-Māori relationships.
  • Ability to see and convey the big picture while knowing how to achieve long term change.
  • Experience providing intellectual and functional leadership across and within organisations, including experience mentoring and developing junior staff and peers.
  • Attributes of being flexible, calm and resilient.

Utu ā-tau/Salary


The appointing salary for this role will be between $97,208 to $135,539 and will be based on skills and experience.

In addition, there is a Te Reo Māori allowance (from $1,000 up to $3,200). This is dependent on completion of an approved assessment with Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Māori Level Finder Examination.
