Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced and detail-oriented QC Registered Electrician with current ATEX and CompEx certification to carry out inspections, assessments, and compliance verification of existing Motor Control Centre (MCC) control panels and associated electrical installations across operational water and wastewater infrastructure in Ireland.

The successful candidate will be responsible for evaluating existing installations against current Safe Electric requirements, relevant Irish standards, ATEX directives, and industry best practices, with a strong focus on safety, hazardous area compliance, documentation accuracy, and asset integrity.

Key ResponsibilitiesInspection Scope

  • Inspect existing MCC control panels, distribution boards, control systems, and associated electrical infrastructure within operational:
  • Wastewater Treatment Plants
  • Water Treatment Plants
  • Pumping Stations

Compliance Verification

  • Verify compliance of installations with:
  • Safe Electric requirements in Ireland
  • ETCI National Rules for Electrical Installations (ET101)
  • ATEX directives and hazardous area requirements
  • Relevant IEC, EN, and IS standards
  • Site-specific safety procedures and client specifications

Condition Assessment

  • Conduct visual inspections and detailed condition assessments of:
  • MCC panels
  • Power and control cabling
  • Earthing and bonding systems
  • Isolation arrangements
  • Intrinsically safe systems
  • Hazardous area equipment and certification

Documentation Review

  • Review and assess:
  • Existing electrical drawings, schematics, EPD & HAC documentation
  • Panel labelling and identification
  • Circuit protection coordination
  • Inspection and maintenance records
  • ATEX dossiers and hazardous area documentation

Reporting

  • Identify non-conformances, defects, deterioration, unsafe conditions, and deviations from standards.
  • Produce comprehensive inspection reports including:
  • Compliance findings
  • Defect lists
  • Photographic records
  • Recommendations for remedial works
  • Prioritisation of safety-critical issues

Coordination & Asset Management

  • Liaise with site operations personnel, engineers, and project managers to coordinate inspections with minimal operational disruption.
  • Undertake asset tagging as assets are inspected and upload to the nominated portal.
  • Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with:
  • Safe systems of work
  • Permit-to-work procedures
  • Lock Out / Tag Out (LOTO) requirements
  • Confined space and hazardous area protocols where applicable

Essential Requirements

  • Registered Electrical Contractor (REC) / QC Registered Electrician in Ireland.
  • Current ATEX certification.
  • Current CompEx certification.
  • Proven experience working in:
  • Water and wastewater treatment facilities
  • Industrial MCC environments
  • Hazardous area installations
  • Strong knowledge of:
  • Safe Electric standards and inspection requirements
  • ET101 National Rules for Electrical Installations
  • ATEX regulations and hazardous area classifications
  • MCC panel construction and industrial control systems
  • Ability to interpret electrical drawings, single line diagrams, and control schematics.
  • Experience preparing detailed technical inspection and compliance reports.
  • Full clean Irish driving licence.

Desirable Qualifications & Experience

  • Electrical trade qualification.
  • Inspection and testing qualifications.
  • Experience with:
  • PLC systems
  • SCADA systems
  • Instrumentation
  • Industrial automation environments
  • Knowledge of:
  • IEC 60079 series
  • Functional safety systems
  • Asset condition assessments

Remuneration

  • Salary €62,500 – €63,500 depending on experience.
  • Company vehicle.
  • Daily subsistence (where applicable).
  • Benefits package.

Pay: €62,500.00-€63,500.00 per year
