**This is a FULL-TIME, CONTRACTUAL C2 position**

The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB), School of Medicine is currently seeking a Qualitative Research Analyst (Analyst, Research Data) for the Department of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Science. This is a telework-eligible position with occasional in-office meetings required. This is a contractual position.

PRIMARY DUTIES

  • Conduct qualitative data collection, including interviews, focus groups, and observations, ensuring adherence to research protocols and ethical standards.
  • Perform qualitative coding and thematic analysis using software such as NVivo, ATLAS.ti, or Dedoose.
  • Utilize structured coding frameworks and apply rigorous analytic techniques to synthesize findings.
  • Ensure validity and reliability in qualitative data interpretation and manage compliance with research quality control standards.
  • Maintain qualitative datasets and assist in organizing project-related documentation, including field notes and transcripts.
  • Assist in manuscript preparation, grant proposals, and reports by presenting qualitative findings in narrative summaries, thematic matrices, and visual representations.
  • Support interdisciplinary research teams by integrating qualitative insights into mixed-methods research designs.
  • Participate in advanced qualitative analysis techniques such as content analysis, discourse analysis, and other research methods.
  • Contribute to publications and presentations using real-world qualitative data from healthcare settings, community-based research, and policy analysis.
  • Prepare and present reports for presentation or submittal to sponsoring agent, Principal Investigators, and staff.
  • Assist in the preparation of research findings at academic conferences such as the American Public Health Association (APHA), Academy Health, and the Gerontological Society of America (GSA).
  • Collaborate on mixed-methods research projects integrating qualitative and quantitative data to examine health disparities and rehabilitation outcomes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications


MINIMUM QUALIFCIATIONS

Education: Bachelor's degree in Information Management, Social Science, Public Policy, Mathematics, Statistics, Health Sciences, Rehabilitation Science or field of study related to the research.

Experience: Prior experience with SAS, STATA, SPSS, and/or Excel is preferred. Prior experience with qualitative data collection and analysis such as interviews, focus groups, thematic coding, etc. and/or qualitative research methodologies and theoretical frameworks is preferred. Experience with community-based research methods and best practices for community engagement preferred. Experience presenting research findings at national or international conferences is preferred. Experience supporting IRB submissions, management of regulatory requirements for qualitative research, and preparation of extramural grants including qualitative research aims is preferred.

Other: Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 undergraduate college credits being equivalent to one year of related experience. In instances where specific education and/or experience is required only directly related education and/or experience may be substituted.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Familiarity with mixed-methods research designs.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to synthesize complex qualitative findings into actionable insights for academic and policy audiences.
  • Demonstrated accuracy, attention to detail, and strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and with interdisciplinary teams while contributing to collaborative research teams.
  • Ability to demonstrate, understand, apply, and adhere to the UMB Core Values of Respect and Integrity, Well-being and Sustainability, Equity and Justice, and Innovation and Discovery.
  • Proficiency in qualitative analysis software (e.g., NVivo, ATLAS.ti, Dedoose) preferred.


HIRING RANGE:
$47,500 - $56,000 per year (Commensurate with education and experience)
