The Role
The Q&A Lead Engineer will report directly to The Director of Research and Development. This role will have responsibility for supporting our team of Q&A. This role will provide mentoring, leadership and direction to team members, as well as ensuring the quality of the team’s output is of a consistently high standard. As a Quality Assurance Lead Engineer, you will work as part of an Agile development team and ensure that the software is delivered to a high-quality standard. You will be involved in planning, designing, management, execution and reporting of tests using appropriate testing tools and techniques.
A good working relationship across departments is important for this role. You will be an effective partner across all functions within Netwatch to deliver associated new products in line with divisional pipelines. The successful individual must possess strong leadership skills. The individual should enjoy working in a dynamic and results driven team-based environment with flexibility essential.
What You’ll Do
- Provide day-to-day people management for the department, including task allocation, workload prioritisation, performance monitoring, coaching, and support to ensure team objectives and service levels are achieved.
- Support the development and capability of team members, including onboarding, training, knowledge sharing, and contributing to performance reviews, to ensure the department maintains a high standard of technical and customer service expertise.
- Develop and implement Q&A policies and procedures.
- Represent Q&A in executive meetings and strategic planning. Gather and understand stakeholder requirements and ensure the Q&A team delivers solutions that meet those needs.
- Understand automated testing frameworks to manage reports and guide the team effectively.
- Utilize Azure DevOps for managing the team's workflows and reporting.
- Ensure the quality of existing and new features through both manual and automated testing.
- Use continuous integration techniques where practical.
- Work closely across other departments to create acceptance criteria for the user stories.
- Support and drive test automation through all phases of testing (such as unit, system, integration and regression)
- Communicate with the Agile Team on progress made and planned progress.
- Automate testing of software to industry standards.
- Create and maintain appropriate test data for the team.
- Manage each project’s scope and timeline.
- Coordinate sprints, retrospective meetings and daily stand-ups.
- Facilitate internal communication and effective collaboration.
- Work with product owners to handle backlogs and new requests.
- Ensure deliverables are up to quality standards at the end of each sprint.
- Guide development teams to higher scrum maturity.
- Support further development of a productive environment where team members ‘own’ the product and enjoy working on it.
What You’ll Bring
- BSc/MSc in Computer Science/Engineering (or related) degree
- 2+ Years’ experience within a similar role
- People management skills - introducing and building ways in which people can learn from each other, encouraging mentoring and the transfer of knowledge by designing and delivering learning interventions.
- Excellent project management, organisational skills and the ability to work to tight deadlines.
- Ability to drive strategic initiatives and continuous improvement.
- Knowledge of how automated tests are written and maintained.
- Proficiency in managing and reporting through Azure DevOps.
- Excellent knowledge of Scrum techniques (such as definition of done, user stories, automated testing, backlog refinement)
- Good knowledge of other Agile frameworks (SCRUM, XP etc.)
