  • Full Time

Quality Specialist
  • Implement and lead quality systems
  • Foster engagement & improve quality culture
  • Conduct assurance plans and investigations

Lead quality initiatives, ensure compliance, and improve quality culture across Transpower.

Our context

At the centre of the electricity sector in New Zealand, Transpower owns, plans, builds, maintains, and operates the National Grid: the backbone of New Zealand's energy infrastructure, a robust and reliable high voltage transmission network that connects areas of generation with towns, cities, and businesses across New Zealand to power our country and lives 24 hours a day seven days a week.

About the team

Within our Grid Delivery Division, our Quality and Compliance team works closely with other internal teams, external service providers, contractors, and consultants. They ensure quality is at the forefront of what we do, including in the planning of how the work on our transmission system and assets is delivered, and is planned to be delivered, ensuring it is done right.

This work is critically important in assuring that regulatory, code of practice, industry standards, and Transpower's business and contractual requirements are aligned with through monitoring grid compliance, handling breaches, and facilitating asset capability changes. It drives feedback, learning opportunities, insights, and fosters ongoing improvements to help realise investment, construction, improvement, maintenance, and operations outcomes.

This approach not only helps keep the lights on, but also ensures effective delivery of services to our internal and external Grid Delivery partners, customers, and regulators, and contributes to the advancement of our energy future.

About the role

As Quality Specialist, you will play a pivotal role within the team, directly supporting the Grid Quality and Compliance Manager, offering strategic advice and guidance on quality matters with the aim of improving Transpower's maturity in the quality arena.

Your work will cover several critical areas, including:

  • ensuring effective implementation of quality systems.
  • leading the quality work program.
  • fostering robust engagement and relationships to enhance our quality culture.
  • identifying key business processes and controls that drive quality.
  • supporting and developing processes for handling non-conformance.
  • implementing assurance plans to identify and resolve issues.

Additionally, you will contribute to asset management objectives by verifying systems, processes, and practices meet expectations, and where required, conduct investigations into quality, reliability, and service non-conformances or incidents, subsequently collaborating with others to identify associated risks.

While based in Wellington, this role involves a mix of corporate, regional office, and field activities nationally, including coordination, analysis, and management reporting for the collective quality group. Your efforts will drive strong feedback loops, support continual improvement, and enhance management outcomes across our quality ecosystem.

What will you bring?

With a tertiary qualification or equivalent, ideally in Quality Management Systems, and/or potentially Asset Management, you will hold a current NZ driver's licence and will have a confirmed background in a related quality field!

You will possess excellent communication and organisation skills, with demonstrable ability to work effectively and lead priorities whilst not losing sight of timelines and emerging work streams. Your wider skills and experience will include:

  • Analytical Skills: proficient in data interpretation and problem-solving.
  • Quality Management: principles and ISO standards (e.g., ISO 9001)
  • Stakeholder Engagement: strong skills engaging and building relationships with partners.
  • Industry Standards: understanding of electricity industry standards and regulations.

The following are highly desirable and would be advantageous:

  • Asset Management: experience with asset management (ISO 55001) and reliability systems.
  • Project Management: knowledge of project management and service delivery in the electricity industry.
  • Auditing Qualifications: lead auditing qualifications.
  • Toolsets: experience with implementation toolsets for quality management systems and procedures.
