Are you a recent STEM graduate eager to kickstart your career in the rail industry? We are seeking a motivated Rail Systems Modelling Analyst to support V/Line’s mission of delivering safe and efficient rail services. In this dynamic entry-level role, you will contribute to the development and maintenance of advanced rail systems models using cutting-edge software like RailSys. This is a unique opportunity to engage in strategic service planning, analyse operational data, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to enhance our rail network.

Key accountabilities include:

  • Skill Development: Acquire skills to support the design of strategic service plans (timetables).
  • Data Management: Collect, cleanse, and analyse operational data for decision-making.
  • Model Development: Assist in building and validating rail network infrastructure models.
  • Statistical Support: Contribute to the development of mathematical methods and costing models.
  • Scenario Testing: Conduct tests for infrastructure enhancements and operational plans.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify solutions to enhance processes and reduce costs.

The ideal candidate

We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical candidate who is passionate about rail systems and eager to contribute to V/Line’s strategic service planning. You will possess a strong foundation in quantitative analysis and demonstrate the ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. You will be proactive in identifying challenges and providing innovative solutions while effectively communicating with diverse stakeholders.


Knowledge, skills, and experience:

  • Proven experience in quantitative analysis.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite.
  • Familiarity with R/SQR and data visualisation systems.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to navigate complex and politically sensitive environments.
  • High resilience to meet tight deadlines.
  • Proactive in identifying issues and suggesting resolutions.

Highly regarded

Tertiary qualification in Science, Statistics, Mathematics or Engineering (STEM)

Successful applicants will be required to undergo pre-employment screening including, probity (police) checks, and Australian entitlement to work. Employees of V/Line are required to maintain a valid Working with Children Check Victoria (Employee) for the duration of employment.

The remuneration range for this position starts at $78,000 inclusive of superannuation and upwards based on experience and overall suitability to the role.
