What to expect in the role

REDI Enterprises in Medicine Hat is currently seeking a permanent, full-time, Disability Service Worker II in our REDIworks division. The DSWII is responsible for supporting individuals with developmental disabilities who may also experience physical and/or mental health disorders, to achieve their personal outcomes through meaningful community involvement and employment. With a passion for supporting people with disabilities, you will:

  • Identify, coordinate and support individuals’ involvement with outside services and resources as applicable to individuals’ needs
  • Foster independence in individuals being served by encouraging and empowering them to make their own choices and informed decisions, and to act upon them
  • Provide training and support in developing skills for independence, employment, volunteer, and community involvement as per individuals’ unique needs and learning styles
  • Help individuals identify employment goals, and create an action plan to guide employment preparation and develop resume, letters of introduction, and references
  • Provide consultation and support to employers/volunteer organizations

You have a person-centered approach and will take the time to get to know your client and act in their best interest, while maintaining professional boundaries.

Job Requirements:

  • 2 years of post-secondary education in a related field such as Special education, Community and Disability Studies, Social Work, or Psychology
  • Between six months and two years of relevant experience in rehabilitation/disability services or suitable combination of education and experience
  • First Aid – Level C / CPR certificate
  • Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s license and access to a vehicle with $2 million liability insurance
  • Criminal record and Vulnerable Sector Check that are acceptable to the Executive Director
  • A positive attitude and belief that persons with disabilities have the right and responsibility to define and act on their life choices, and seek active participation in the community

Pay: From $20.50 per hour
