Te Aho o Te Kura Pounamu (Te Kura) is New Zealand's largest school with a roll of up to 24,000 ākonga (students) at any point of time. We provide personalised and authentic learning programmes through distance education from early childhood to NCEA Level 3, including to young adult and adult learners.

Our vision is to enable our ākonga to achieve their educational and personal goals, empowering them to become engaged and contributing members of their communities.

Our ākonga are at the centre of all we do. Our learning programmes are flexible, enabling us to respond to diverse ākonga needs Ki te tī, ki te tā, ki te katoa – Anytime, anywhere, anyone.


Teaching at Te Aho o Te Kura Pounamu

Kaiako at Te Kura engage with our ākonga online and face-to-face at huinga ako (advisories) and events, and also work onsite with colleagues in our regional offices. Te Kura aims to provide flexible working arrangements, so Kaiako are able to request to work from home for up to two days per week.


Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this position:

The Regional Leader of Learning is an inclusive, innovative and creative problem-solver, responsive to shifts in educational thinking, and focused on equitable access to learning and equitable outcomes for diverse learners. This role is responsible for leading, influencing and supporting ongoing development in kaiako thinking and practice across all levels of curriculum delivery at Te Kura.

This role offers exciting opportunities to lead, influence and support ongoing development in Kaiako (Teacher) thinking and practice across all levels of curriculum delivery at Te Kura. You'll lead in-region Big Picture inquiry development and provide support for key Ministry of Education initiatives including Learning Support, Success for Māori Students and Success for Pacific Students.

Provide connected and effective regional leadership of Te Kura's Big Picture pedagogy and contribute as part of the school-wide team to the design and review of curriculum following the direction set by Te Whāriki and the New Zealand Curriculum. Your thorough understanding and experience of online learning design, learning delivery, learner agency and assessment requirements are key.

We invite applications from leaders in education with a passion for effective curriculum design and delivery to join us at Te Kura. You'll be a key part of our dedicated Regional and Overseas and Early Childhood teams who work alongside our ākonga (students) to achieve successful outcomes.


Ko koe tēnei | About you:

We are keen to hear from people who are excited about working as an integral part of our new curriculum team structure which has been designed to best meet ākonga and whānau needs.

You'll be an exceptional communicator, and an inclusive, innovative and creative problem-solver, with proven experience in encouraging and supporting staff to implement and integrate key curriculum initiatives. You'll be responsive to shifts in educational thinking and focused on equitable access to learning and outcomes for diverse learners.

There is a 0.2 FTE teaching component to this role, confirmed annually in consultation with the appropriate Regional Manager in response to identified regional needs.
