About the Role
Do you have a strong sense of social justice and want to make a difference in people’s lives? Be an integral part of an innovative service for the Hawkes Bay
Te Ara Manapou Pregnancy and Parenting Support (PPS) works with pregnant woman and whānau of children under three years of age who have alcohol and drug issues and are poorly connected to health and social services.

About the Team/Service/ Location
Te Ara Manapou has a multi-disciplinary team working with a range of specialist services such as Mental Health, Lead Maternity Carers, Oranga Tamariki and Non-Government Organisations. We work from a client focused perspective to support whānau to reach their potential and in turn improve outcomes for children.

About you
As one of our Registered Practitioners you will be an experienced practitioner and may have trained in AOD, nursing, social work, counselling, psychology, occupational therapy or related fields. You will be seeking an opportunity to work in a cohesive well supported team and develop your AOD expertise specific to pregnant women, fathers, their children and their whānau.
A sense of social justice and enjoying working with a vulnerable, challenging and complex client group is essential. Excellent engagement and communication skills, a non-judgmental attitude and an ability to work autonomously within a team are vital.
Te Ara Manapou offers the opportunity to work with a small caseload of clients in an intensive strength-based approach. Knowledge and passion of working with complex families is a must as is a resilience in your professional practice.
You will also need the following key attributes and skills:
  • Current New Zealand Registration
  • Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth (mandatory)
  • Experience in projects / initiatives which give effect to Te Tiriti principals and frameworks, and the application of Mātauranga Māori and Kaupapa Māori approaches, particularly as they apply in healthcare settings. (mandatory)
