Who we are
The Auckland Regional Forensic Psychiatry Service, or the Mason Clinic as it is often known, is the largest Forensic Mental Health Service in New Zealand. We serve the four Northern District Health Boards including all courts in the northern region and five prisons. We deliver a comprehensive range of Forensic Mental Health Services, including secure inpatient acute and rehabilitation services which connect to community rehabilitation services, services for offenders with an intellectual disability, culture specific programmes for Maori, court liaison and prison mental health services. This includes a regional service to Northland Region Corrections Facility at Ngawha and Northland.
Tane Whakapiripiri Unit is one of eight forensic mental health inpatient units that assesses, treats and assists in the rehabilitative recovery of people with mental illness or intellectual disability. Tane Whakapiripiri Unit is a 12 bed mixed gender Forensic Inpatient Minimum Secure Kaupapa Maori Unit. Our Model of Care incorporates Te Tiriti o Waitangi Principles and built around Te Whare Tapa Wha (the four cornerstones of Maori health) incorporating Maori concepts and values that work alongside western approaches to psychiatric treatment.
About the role
We continue to develop the services for the future and are looking to recruit two Registered Mental Health Nurses into full FTE position. In these roles, you will provide nursing care of the highest quality in accordance with the Nursing Council of New Zealand scope of practice (Registered Nurse) and the WDHB Professional Development and Recognition Plan – level 2, competent registered nurse.
About you
On top of the skills listed about, you will need:
- NZ RN Annual Practicing Certificate
- With scope to work in a mental health setting and minimum Level 2 – competent healthcare portfolio
- 2+ years of Mental Health Nursing experience
- Current PDRP
- Full NZ driver’s licence
- Cultural competence with a commitment to the Treaty of Waitangi.
- Ability to be a positive role model to others with a good sense of humour and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
- You work within an ethical framework with strong boundaries.
