Position Overview

The College of Registered Nurses and Midwives of Prince Edward Island (CRNMPEI) is the regulatory body for registered nurses, nurse practitioners, psychiatric nurses and midwives in the province. Since 1922, CRNMPEI has been granted the authority through legislation to regulate the professions in the public interest.The investigator will assist CRNMPEI in achieving its vision: Excellence in Nursing Practice: To ensure the public can expect safe, high-quality nursing and midwifery practice.

The Investigator will play an integral role in the discipline process. The discipline process is a key component of CRNMPEI's legislative mandate to protect the public. Subsection 43(b) of the Regulated Health Professions Act provides authority an Investigation Committee to investigate a complaint or refer a complaint to an investigator for investigation.In the regulatory field, where compliance, quality improvement, examination, discipline, and continuing competence are key issues, defensible procedures and accurate results are vital to proper investigations. Roles and Responsibilities

The Investigator will:

· Conduct investigations referred by Investigation Committees of CRNMPEI

· Gather relevant information

· Obtain necessary documents using the powers, privileges and immunities given through legislation

· Schedule appointments for interviews or for document collection

· Conduct interviews and take notes/recordings

· Create detailed and timely documentation of ongoing investigations

· Prepare for and be involved in disciplinary hearings

· Testify as required at hearings

· Maintain confidentiality

· Create a final Investigation Report within the legislated timelines

Other:

Participate in established performance evaluation process and professional development goals

· Develop, update and maintain investigation resources

· Attend relevant conferences, workshops and other in-service events as approved.

Qualifications and Requirements:

· University degree that led to a Healthcare designation and a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience

· Experience working with health agencies in Prince Edward Island

· Experience writing reports

· Knowledge of right touch regulation and/or person-centred regulation

· Understand the role of a regulatory body

· Understand current legislation that governs the practice of nursing and midwifery in PEI

· Demonstrate skills in assessment, program planning, implementation and evaluation

· Work effectively, both independently and as part of a team

· Flexible and able to adapt to change

· Excellent command of information technology

· Perform other related duties as assigned by the CEO

· Previous work as an Investigator would be an asset

Salary: $54.02/hr with an additional 4% in leu of benefits

Hour of Work: 18.75 hours/week is expected when there are disciplinary cases requiring investigation.

Job Type: Fixed term contract

Pay: $54.02 per hour

Expected hours: 18.75 per week

Schedule:

  • Day shift
  • No weekends

Work Location: Hybrid remote in Charlottetown, PE C1E 0C6
