Job Purpose
The purpose of the Relief Health Care workers role is to provide the highest possible standards of support to those who avail of Lumen HealthCare services.
The role will suit candidates, who are caring, enthusiastic and willing to be part of a team that learns.
Within that context the Health Care Worker will be supported to work within a line management system.
Key Responsibilities
- To work as part of a team to ensure Residents are fully involved, in line with their specific health care needs, in identifying their hopes, aspirations, goals and challenges.
- To support Residents in achieving their hopes, aspirations and goals.
- To work closely with Health Care Workers, Senior Health Care Workers and the Manager in preparing and implementing individual and group support programs.
- When appropriate provide personal care to residents. This may include every day domestic tasks such as bathing, washing, cleaning and assisting with mealtimes.
- To work with other Health Care and Senior Health Care Workers to promote a safe working and living environment. This may involve resolving difficult situations which may arise from challenging behaviour and knowing the techniques and correct language to use to resolve such situations (necessary training and coaching will be provided)
- To ensure that residents' medication is held/stored and administered in accordance with Lumen HealthCare’s Medication Policy. (The relevant training will be provided to those Health Care workers who are expected to administer medication).
- To be familiar with all administration requirements of the scheme, ensuring relevant and important information is recorded and logged as per the schemes reporting guidelines. (particular focus on critical incident reporting)
- To be fully aware of all policies and procedures in place within the scheme (including Health & Safety), ensuring attendance and participation at all related training.
- To be familiar with and to adhere to the local safety statement (risk assessments and standard operating procedures) always.
- To be familiar with and to adhere to all company policies and procedures.
- To maintain the highest level of infection control standards as directed by company policy and national best practice guidance in the utmost interests for the Safety, Health and welfare for yourself, your colleagues, our service users and residents and any other persons in so far as is reasonable and practicable.
- Seek and provide guidance from others for work performed.
Requirements of the Role
Qualifications and Experience
- A QQI/FETAC Major Level 5 or equivalent in Health care or equivalent related qualification and a minimum of 9 months experience of supporting people in a caring field as a paid employee, volunteer or carer.
OR
- A minimum of 1 years’ experience of supporting people in a caring field as a paid employee, volunteer or carer
- Demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of people with Autism and/or intellectual disability.
Circumstances
- To be willing to work various shifts as required.
- Full current driving license with access to your own vehicle.
- Good literacy and numeracy skills.
- IT skills.
The above-mentioned duties are not exhaustive, and the post holder will be required to carry out other duties as and when necessary.
This post is subject to satisfactory Garda Vetting.

All applicants must have a full and clean Irish/UK Driving Licence.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: €16.56 per hour
