Freelance Legal Videographer – REMOTE

Contract Position | $25–$30/hr | 1099 Contractor

ApertureAlley, based in New Jersey, is seeking experienced, detail-oriented freelance videographers to capture legal depositions, with an emphasis on remote coverage across all U.S. time zones. This is a flexible 1099 opportunity for dependable professionals who value accuracy, quality, and consistency in a legal environment.

While we are headquartered in NJ, hybrid roles may be performed in any U.S. state. In-person work is currently secondary but offers room for future growth in NJ, NY, and PA.

We’re looking for individuals who can offer strong weekday availability (Monday–Friday). Weekend work is extremely rare. Communication is key—you’ll confirm your schedule a week in advance, and we’ll work around it.

What to Expect

• Flexible scheduling – you set your availability
• 10–30 hours/week average (some contractors reach 40+ based on demand)
• Deposition lengths vary from 2 to 8+ hours
• Remote work spans all U.S. time zones (assignments may start early mornings or run late evenings depending on region)

Responsibilities

• Accurately and reliably record legal depositions according to client and legal standards
• Set up and manage remote deposition recording systems (OBS & Zoom proficiency required)
• Communicate clearly and professionally via email, text, and Slack
• Submit accurate daily invoices and escalate issues promptly to ensure client satisfaction

Required Equipment (REMOTE Priority)

• Two laptops or desktop computers (one dedicated to Zoom, one dedicated to OBS recording) with 2 screens
• High-speed, reliable internet (wired Ethernet strongly preferred)
• External webcam (1080p or higher)
• USB/XLR microphone with clear audio pickup (lav or headset acceptable)
• Headphones (to monitor without feedback)
• UPS/power backup recommended

Secondary (In-Person Coverage)

While most assignments will be remote, local candidates in NJ, NY, and PA may also grow into in-person deposition coverage. If pursuing onsite work in the future, required gear includes:

• Professional camcorder with XLR input and date/time stamp (720p or higher; no 4K required)
• Sturdy tripod
• 4-channel audio mixer + 4–5 XLR lavalier microphones
• XLR cables
• Neutral backdrop (gray, blue, white, or black)
• Reliable transportation (vehicle required for travel)

Qualifications

• Strong understanding of video production workflow
• Excellent communication and customer service skills (phone, text, email, Slack)
• Proficiency with OBS & Zoom (non-negotiable for remote coverage)
• Ability to lift 50 lbs (for future onsite assignments)

Compensation

• Remote Coverage: $25/hr (2-hour minimum per job)
• In-Person Coverage: $30/hr (3-hour minimum per job) + mileage ($0.50/mi), tolls, and parking reimbursed
• Payment Terms: NET 90 — though we often pay earlier (NET 30–60 depending on client)

Additional Notes

• This is a freelance contractor role – you must own your gear and manage your own taxes
• This work should not be your sole source of income, though consistent contractors may see steady weekly hours
• Opportunities for onsite coverage are available for those who want to expand into hybrid work
