About the Role

As a renal social worker at Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora Waitematā you will be part of an enthusiastic team where your social work skills and ability to empathise with our client group will be greatly valued.
You will provide psychosocial assessments, risk assessments, therapeutic counselling and social work interventions for patients in the inpatient ward and Dialysis Unit based at North Shore Hospital. You will also undertake community based work.
About the Team/Service/ Location
The renal social workers work closely with the pre-dialysis and pre/ post-transplant nurses. They attend outpatient clinics and family meetings as part of the multi-disciplinary team and work with patients and their families on dialysis at home and in our three dialysis units.

About you
- It is essential that you have social work experience in the health sector of working with Māori clients, Pacific Island clients and their whānau and families as well as experience working with other cultural groups.
- Current New Zealand Driver’s License
- Experience gained in an inpatient hospital setting and in the community is preferred.
- The successful applicant will have experience of working therapeutically with people experiencing ill health, grief and loss and managing complex social issues.
- A social work degree and registration with the New Zealand Social Workers Registration Board including a current Annual Practising Certificate is required.
